What exactly did we ever see on-screen that justified making Sulu a captain?

Seven was arguably the science officer of Voyager for multiple years of its journey, and I'm gonna guess that Admiral Janeway thinks Seven is qualified to be a captain.

Janeway also thinks a bunch of kids should be fast tracked to Starfleet academy in prodigy, so yeah I can believe that

There's still aspects to the show, season and such I don't like and it shouldn't have taken the entire damn season to get them back together and working on the -D because that's the moments when the show shined and the ship shined in all her glory too. CGI really helps the Galaxy-class spread out its wings.

But in the end, I just don't like large parts of the story and character elements. The Borg again, don't care about Jack Crusher or Raffi there's so much to get through. And much as I liked it, seeing the -D again, seeing the remade bridge, the effects, the crew on that bridge again so much to like, but.... I can't see myself watching it again. There's just so much I don't care about and don't like visually about the show. It's a lot to not like or be indifferent about to get to so little like. It's the coconut of TV series.

And the Titan becomes the -G? Whatever.

Again, I voted a generous 8 because all of the like made up for a lot of meh.

Oh definitely, if I wanted to, I could go through and name every single thing that drove me bonkers, but I tend to weigh TV shows and movies based on how much fun I have, and what I glean from them, and the characters just swept the whole thing to the side. Nostalgia is damned effective, and I have to give the writers credit for putting it out there, and the great actors we've come to know and love for wielding it as effectively as they did.

I likely won't ever really do a rewatch of Picard as a series, but I certainly won't forget the finale, or the characters who were a part of it.

Did we watch the same scene? The route was far from clear, easy and they were firing and trying to stop the Enterprise the entire way. Geordi said it was virtually impossible, Data said it was statistically near impossible but he had a "gut feeling" he could do it.

It doesn’t make much sense that the structure should have enough empty space for the Enterprise to fly through it in the first place, but they couldn’t raise a shield or some kind of barrier? Their only defense was shooting at the Enterprise with all the accuracy of Imperial Stormtroopers. That’s nothing.

I really loved this. This is the most satisfied I've been with a Star Trek property since Deep Space Nine.

From reading through the comments over the past few weeks, I know some people have problems with the Borg/Changeling conspiracy and other plot issues. I think that misses the forest for the trees.

To me, this series has never been about the mystery box. It's been about these characters finding each other again, the characters realizing what they've lost in distancing themselves from the closeness they had with each other once upon a time, and re-finding their strengths and growing as people once they come together and realize their mistakes to deal with a problem.

I think I gave this show more leeway because I cared and connected with these characters in ways that I haven't for any of the previous iterations. When Riker sorta accepts his own death and says something to the effect of "Imzadi, I love you and I'll wait for you with our son," I felt that and it hit me.

That is for me what the Picard series was always about, the final frontier isn't about going long distances or encountering aliens, it was always about the characters discovering themselves ...

I wonder how the anti-Borg sentiment would be after the Frontier Day incident? You would think it would amplify it to extreme levels, given the number of officers killed or temporarily assimilated. Distrust of the transporters would probably be at an all-time high.

I disagree. This shows its possible to have an in-continuity continuation of 24th century Star Trek under modern serialized storytelling. There's so much world building from 21 seasons of shows that could faithfully be followed up from.

I agree with your sentiment. ST: Legacy would be nice by following up on the 21 seasons. I'm particularly interested in following up on the Quadrant shaking events of DS9 that have barely been raised.

That's not to say that Legacy should be all about revisiting the past. Like real life, it can deal with the fall out of past events and encounter entirely new things. And I'm interested in the Titan's er Ent-G's crew. (Plus, I love the ship!)

Like I said, they're not just going to give up and go home. They're still out there, they're still expert infiltrators, and they're still dangerous. They can still do a lot of damage.

The super cube operated at 36% as it had to prioritise most of its power and resource on controlling the assimulated Fed fleet, not to mention that the Borg are weakened anyhow ... also that after 30+ years Data is actually good at steering, and Beverly Crusher exposed Worf for being a poor gunner ... perhaps he should have been chief medical officer... imagine the possibilities??

The ending implied that the transporter fix that removed the Borg DNA was being used to screen and weed out Changeling infiltrators.

I'm guessing they'll go to whatever prison the Female Changeling is presumably still being kept in.

I think the fact that this didn't work for me is making me question whether or not I was a TNG fan, because I feel like I should be moved by it the way others have been. I've seen every episode of TNG probably dozens of times in reruns, own the DVDs and the Blurays, and rewatched it on Netflix... I should be the perfect target for this, but for some reason I'm not.

It's entirely possible that you've changed over time. I know I have. Several years ago, I rewatched TNG in its entirety. It's the first time I've seen most of the episodes since the 90s! I came to realize that while I loved it at the time, it was very much comfort food TV. I'd be a lukewarm fan of it now. Basically, they were kind of laid back stories where I was mainly catching up on what some of my favorite characters were doing in each episode. Most weren't overly deep or thoughtful.

I certainly enjoyed my rewatch but it wasn't quite what I was expecting.

That's not to dump on TNG or the cast. I was different. TV was different. You were different. And it would land differently now.

Great. We were promised a badass enemy in Episode 9, and they turned out to be barely operational pussies in Episode 10. You find that a satisfying resolution?
