Agreed. Encounter at Farpoint Picard tore into Wesley for less. If they wanted to fast track Jack, they should've just made him an enlisted man like O'Brien and leave it at that. Or retcon a Vulcan Science Academy education into his background that Discovery already established as being interchangeable with Starfleet Academy.

Again, they made the direct, nepotism joke for a reason

OH MAN did I love this shot! We get to see the Enterprise-D in all her majestic glory from a human perspective!

Also, it was cool to hear the very underrated theme from Star Trek: Generations in this episode. I like how the themes from ALL of the Trek movies were heard in this season and I was hoping we'd hear the theme from Generations AND WE DID!!!!!

Another thing: I'm surprised Wesley Crusher didn't show up in this episode to introduce himself to his brother.

It seems more now that what people want is to be given absolutely resolute, perfectly clear bullet points to what happened to every single character seen on screen, every single minor comment and there is no room for traditional Trek vagueness, soft conclusions or such.

I don't know where that need/desire/demand comes from. Every single Star Trek, Star Wars, Doctor Who, Battlestar Galactica, Babylon 5, etc type series has soft conclusions, vague details and such.

Its a story, not a powerpoint presentation or excel spreadsheet

Yes, thank you.

I said a few weeks into this season that the nitpicking had gone beyond any reasonable degree, and so it ends too. That final episode wrapped everything up far more than I actually expected. We got clear answers on the Changelings, the transporters, the replaced officers, the fates of all the main characters.

I’m not sure what people actually expect from an hour of TV any more. Sure, there are things unanswered. There wasn’t time for a treatise on Federation security policy or ten minutes of technobabble about how all the shapeshifters were discovered and neutralised. I’m sure some fans would have valued that.

Things can be left unexplained or open and not be “plot holes”.

Perhaps Matalas has made a rod for his own back by being so accessible on Twitter and answering a lot of these questions, which just results in people picking them apart even further.

IMO, Jack had more than enough skills to "ace the written" in that regard. Like the Maquis on Voyager, he just needed the protocols and standards stuff.

Walter Koenig is 86. Even if we assume that Anton Chekov was born in 2294 (one year immediately after Undiscovered Country), Anton would be 107 in Picard. I think Koenig is perfectly aged to play a 107 year old, unless you want to find an actual 107 year old able and willing to play the part (good luck with that).
Pavel Chekov does appear in the fan film Star Trek: Renegades. Looks pretty good for 136.

Jesus can't believe it's under 80. That non "socialist" healthcare really workin out well for ye over there
It's beyond messed up. I have a theory that healthcare is the way it is over here deliberately, as a form of population control.

Just like they've set it up so that our generation living over here won't actually be able to retire at 65. Some older person was talking me about how, "When you retire when you're 65... " and I had to keep myself from laughing at him. I'll be in my 80s before I can retire, assuming I make it. And that's probably The Plan. The whole system needs to be overhauled. All of it.

But anyway, back to the 25th Century, where they have Gangster Vulcans! ;)

THIS MUST HAPPEN AND RIGHT NOW.

*Federation Presidential Protection Detail agents and President Chekov are pinned down behind Chekov's desk in the Presidential Office, trading fire with assimilated interns*

PRESIDENT CHEKOV: You know, this reminds me of the first time my dad took me to the phaser shooting range.

AGENT BERA CHEM GRAL OF TELLAR: Really sir? Is this the time?

PRESIDENT CHEKOV: That's what I said when he told me the phaser was invented by scientists at the Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology!

AGENT PAVA EK'NOOR SH'AQABA OF ANDOR: Wait. What's Moscow?

AGENT GRAL: It's an Earth city a few hundred kilometers east, and everyone knows they didn't invent the phaser.

AGENT SH'AQABA: *trades fire* Wait. So where did they invent the phaser?

AGENT GRAL: Seriously?

PRESIDENT CHEKOV: The National Defense University of Ukraine, obviously!

AGENT GRAL: Not this glorp again!

PRESIDENT CHEKOV: *dodges phaser blast* What?

AGENT SH'AQABA: What do you mean?

AGENT GRAL: *kills drone* He's always trying to give Ukrainians credit for things they didn't do...!

I don't think he has made any rod for his own back.
Fans who ripped into every inch of Discovery but laude this equally poor mystery box show as a masterpiece have created a rod for his back.

Btw, did they imply in this episode that the Borg are defeated forever? Cause Jack Crusher says "The age of the Borg is ending!"
