So is Vadic actually dead?

I still want to know if riker knew about project proteus. He made a quip about goo a few episodes ago that suggested he did.

Villains usually are silly. Vadic was in pain, clearly suffering and sadistic. It makes sense to her. Sufficient for me.

Mileage will vary.

I was kind of expecting the worst about Vadic but I ended up quite liking her because her motivations made some sense, as did her instability.

There were some really good moments: mostly the Riker/Troi/Worf/Raffi scenes, Data/Lore in conflict, and then when everyone got together towards the very end.

Otherwise, I honestly think this series should have been called Star Trek Phaser. Everyone pointing phaser pistols, disruptors, all kinds of guns at everyone else. It's something that's just really noticeable in a season that's already jam packed with vaporizing changelings and other characters, a beheading, repeated stabbings, and all sorts of other action packed badassery where cool guys don't look at explosions.

"There's a darkness on this ship."

Yeah, Deanna, it's the lighting. God forbid people be able to see each other. It might take away from the awesome grittiness. Just ask Sidney LaForge's father, Geordi LaForge, the best engineer in all of Starfleet.

Anyway, so now we get to Jack's abilities, and we're opening the red door to the upside down, or whatever the hell it's supposed to be on the other side. I'm curious to see what all the fuss will be about.

Khans motivations in TWOK also made sense when you think about it

Eh, not really. The deal at the end of Space Seed was Kirk gave him a new planet to try his hand on. Wasn't Kirk's fault the sun exploded, and blaming him seemed like a rationalisation by a psycho.

Vadic, on the other hand, is seeking revenge on the very organisation that tortured and experimented on her.

Reminded me of the portal to the dark side that tempted Rey, under Luke Skywalker's hovel.

Yeah, I honestly thought "it's the dark side of the Force, run Jack!" when she said it was all around him.

I liked this episode better. The nostalgia moment beats were effective, but Vadic was an anti-climax. You can't rival the best "villains" when you have complete control and lose it in 30s seconds. You lose, good day ma'am!

I must admit I never expected the Jack mystery to last this long. Despite drawing it out, this episode felt like they dealt with it more directly and I'm intrigued to see where it goes.

Changelings killed with swords!? Is there something we don't know about those masked masters of mayhem?

"Fire phasers!" "Countermand that order, 'everything' doesn't include phasers™".

Ready for the 2 final episodes, aka: we saved the budget for the finale, cause: epicness.

My Spock helmet is ready.

I sincerely hope not. If he knew, and he did nothing to push back against the project, then that makes him a scumbag, and I don't want Riker to be a scumbag.

Khan felt slighted by the fact that by being abandoned and ignored on Ceti Alpha V it meant that the explosion of Ceti Alpha VI was not noticed and as a result they (Khan, the Augments and his wife) were left to die a slow death.

Now is Khan a egotistical monster? Yes of course. However his motives for wanting revenge on Kirk are no less twisted than Vadic. The Changlings used genetic warfare, enslaved races, created slave warriors, etc but somehow it only became bad when they were the ones experimented on.

Both are born out of extreme selfishness and double standards, but both are reactions most people would likely fall into.

A bit presumptuous that Data put his uniform back on. You need to contact Starfleet first and put him back on active duty.

Right, but in one case you've got "being ignored and let to my own devices", and in the other you have "subjected to torture and medical experiments".

Can't expand on this right now but I was surprised how much the Data stuff worked for me. I was rolling my eyes thinking about what they were going to do with Data and how brining him back would cheapen everything from S1 but I bought it! Some great VERY long arc resolution with him and Lore. Neo-data is just interesting enough with some new wrinkles that I think it could be kind of good?

I agree! Or maybe he found out about it otherwise. But I don't know how else to understand his "how much of that goo shit did they pump into you?" question to Vadic.

Brent Spiner seems content with Data now and would be happy to continue playing him if the opportunity arises..but this is also along the same lines of "actor enjoys being actor, also enjoys being paid"

Why is everyone in-universe, acting like Data never really had emotions before? Yes from the audience point of view, the handful of movies he had them in were drops in the water compared to the ocean of TNG episodes where he had no emotions. But in-universe, the TNG crew served with Data for years on the Enterprise E where he had an emotions chip.

At this point I'll just pretend that Data turned off his emotions due to the horror of the Dominion War during the TNG movie timeframe.

Recast him for the Starfleet Academy show and get it overwith. There won't be a better opportunity. And if Spiner still wants to play him, Data has centuries before he turns into whoever could play him in Starfleet Academy.
