This episode surprised me. It didn’t go in the direction I thought it would. It went in a better one, and I’m here for it.

Dunno if people watch with captions on, but Tallinn speaks Romulan at the party…

It's not that far-fetched what he is saying.

Her hair does have some resemblance with the hair of Eileen Merrell, a character from the HBO show "The Deuce", which is supposed to encapsulate the stereotypical 70s hooker look.

It was seen in Starsky and Hutch and related shows.

Perhaps.

But Adam still genuinely seems to love Kore, or at least cares deeply for her. Otherwise he wouldn't so easily let Q manipulate him.

So Kore may be part of his scientific work, but clearly she isn't only that. Created or not, she's still his daughter.
Oh, for sure. He loves her. She is his daughter. He wants her to live and succeed on every level. But that wasn't your question. You asked why he'd go to all the trouble of creating her through genetic manipulation instead of having a child the old-fashioned way. I explained the most likely reason.

Noonien Soong cared for Data as his child, as well. A mad scientist can create an offspring as the culmination of his life's work and also love that offspring as a dearly beloved child. The two are not mutually exclusive. The amount of effort that went into the creation of Kore probably makes her even more dear to him than a child begat in the usual manner. He has poured absolutely everything he has into creating her and keeping her alive. She is, quite literally, his entire world.

It continues to amuse me in a sad way how people go on endlessly about “Robot Picard” and stubbornly expect for him to be like Data when the show went out of its way to state otherwise. Tells you a lot about how thoroughly they’re watching the show before going into one of their hate frenzies. (Hint: Not very throughly.)

I can take any TNG episode apart if I simply choose to watch it with a mindset of “this show sucks and I hate every second it and now I’m gonna find 100 reasons to do so”.

What exactly is a synth though? I’m trying hard to understand because I feel like I’ve missed something. In season one, the term appeared to be synonymous with android, and people were wondering why they didn’t just call them androids. Are they mechanical? Or are they organic? Or both?

“Truth champion”— even your username is obnoxious. Maybe you should find a hobby; something you actually enjoy. If you wanted to you could pick apart virtually any episode of Star Trek. But what’s the point? Life is short.

It's an ongoing story! They have different accents.

.
Picard is an android synth as opposed to a traditional Soong android. Meaning he has blood and flesh. But I contend it remains a distinction without much of a difference, and it's a bit of a stretch to assume he would have complete organs as well. (The defibrillator malfunctions for a reason afterall.) I certainly don't recall a scene stating as much. But the greater point is that it is utterly implausible for this show to suggest that Seven, Raffi, or Rios wouldn't immediately drag Jurati from her bowing on stage so that she could immediately attend to the android synth. I know they depict Rios attending to Picard almost instantly - itself a stupid contrivance - but Seven and Raffi are literally still inside. Instead they conveniently include a contrived throwaway line suggesting she couldn't be found? Really!? Raffi makes a comment on her singing, the entire crowd is literally applauding her and staring at her, but you're telling me you lost her!?

Here is PART 2 after me pounding the keyboard hard again.
====================================================================

44) Rios exclaims that Picard has a pulse despite the fact that he's an android.

45) Rios exclaims that Picard needs a bio bed and not, say, the expertise of Jurati who in fact was mentored in Soong android tech by Bruce Maddox himself.

46) Rios exclaims that a hospital will want ID, as if they didn't execute a plan where they just concocted fake ID's for one scenario. But don't you dare do the same thing for this scenario!

47) Let me guess... If only we had a contrived excuse for Rios to interact with a doctor that doesn't check for ID... sigh

48) Sure hope that video cameras exist in 2024 or else Soong might not be getting arrested tonight.

49) Let me get this straight. The ONE expert on this incompetent crew who is a CYBERNETICIST FROM THE DAYSTROM INSTITUTE is the one person missing when an android Picard gets damaged!? Honestly? This show is written by untalented hacks for children.

50) It's the middle of the night. Why would this doctor be working? How did Rios even get a hold of her?
Does he know her address? How?

50) How did Seven pay for the bus ticket in the previous episode.(I just remembered)

51) Soong emotes all over the place, and Not Soji asks him for no reason, "Were you driving? Do I need to call someone?" Uhhhh is he not supposed to be driving or something? Has he been known to mow people down before? lol But sure, call someone. Exactly who would that be in this instance? Triple-A? The car rental place? What are you talking about?

52) Soong, a world renowned geneticist, suddenly complains about the inventions he's also created...?

53) Soong proclaims that, "The 'why' of things matters!" And thus perfectly encapsulates sentiment held by lifelong Star Trek fans who hate this show... lmao

54) Doctor tells Rios that she stuck her hands inside Picard's chest and yet neglects to freak out over, you know, the fact that he has nothing internal to resemble a human.

55) Doctor leaves her clinic to strangers. I guess Rios knows how to lock up the place so as not to get looted? In a very poor place too. Maybe the criminals have a con-science??

56) Not Soji uses internet to learn that daddy is a disgraced nut case but brass at Europa - again a space agency - did not seem to do the same thing because contrived bad cartoon writing that makes smart people do and say dumb things. Think about it.

57) Soong conveniently leaves Not Soji alone just so that she can discover the truth about her past! More contrived piss poor writing. Soji never used a computer before to look up Daddy Dearest?

58) Based on no evidence or expertise Not Laris suggests that the car impact on Picard is not the issue but rather the psychological state of the android is what is keeping him in a comatose state. Yes, that's right... Not even getting run down by a car is enough of an excuse for the writers, they need to insert yet another reason for psychological trauma to exist in their characters. So stupid. So boring.

59) And now the not expert Not Laris, who seems to be making things up as she goes, suggests that she can "go inside" the android and use her neuro-optic interceptor. Oh good! It's been at least 6 or 7 minutes since we've seen the last MacGuffin device used by someone!

60) Not Laris invokes the term "mind-meld". Does she even know the Vulcan race exists? Why is she assuming these humans understand what a mind-meld is?

61) Not Laris, a passive character by all accounts, is suddenly advocating for a rather invasive procedure...

62) Not Laris asserts that only Picard knows anything about Q, as if his former first officer, or another Starfleet captain, or a corner Borg drone & crewmember of the USS Voyager wouldn't all be intimately aware of Q, the Q Continuum, and all the shenanigans Starfleet/humanity endured because of Q. So, so, so stupid.

63) Rios asserts that they need Picard awake to get their future back based on no evidence whatsoever.

64) Episode ends with Ag-borg uselessly wandering around, as if anyone associated with this incompetent crew wouldn't have immediately tried to collect when they were bringing Picard to this clinic.

I don't hate the show I watch it religiously due to Trekobligation.

It's the bad writing. At least Renee was presentable although her angst
was tiresome and even Agnes seems better and has not puked so far.

If the writers/directors are reading this please take notes on how not to write.

Why in a world of replication and transporters do people find it so hard to believe Picard has blood and organs ?

I can only assume they just don't want to. It's the Burnham crying of Picard

It’s part of their rather unhealthy obsession with Jean-Luc not changing in ANY significant way. They want TNG Jean-Luc and nothing and no one else despite the fact that decades have passed by now both IRL and in the Trek universe. Hence their anger towards him having a synthetic-in-origin body, it’s an uncomfortably loud reminder of the fact that things have changed. I found it rather amusing when they cheered for him now “being human again” in the Confederation timeline (says a lot about them that they cheer for a human fascist regime timeline but I digress) only to be reminded of the fact that Q mentions that Jean-Luc still has a synth body thanks to his fight with Skull Dukat. Too bad. :D

I don’t know what the problem is and why some people can’t just accept Jean-Luc the way he is. The first thing I thought when I heard about the defibrillator not working on him was “oh wow I’m gonna assign Jean-Luc to tumble dryer duty now because I hate that static electricity thingy that happens with some of the laundry when you take it out, he’s probably unaffected by it - how neat!”

I generally love the idea of… err… exploring his synth body? Making sure everything is where it should be? (And if not that would be okay too, of course.) Is this TMI? If so, sorry. But you get the idea. Human or synth, I don’t care, Jean-Luc is Jean-Luc and that’s enough for me. :adore:

I just had another thought about that.

I used to wonder why Adam would go to all that trouble to genetically create children, when he could have just gotten married and had a daughter like anyone else (as I said, Adam IS rich and smart and not bad looking, he should have no trouble finding a wife). And I also wondered why people keep thinking that all the Soongs are clones, just because Brent played them all.

But what if there is only one Soong?

Think of it. Could be "Requiem for Methuselah" Part II. Maybe Soong is immortal, and he has to make a new identity every few decades? So Adam, Arik, Noonien, and Alton could all literally be the same person. And, IIRC, Flint from TOS could not have children of his own. Maybe Adam has the same problem? If he IS immortal and can't father children, he has to find some other way...
.

I actually really like this idea. Though you'd have to handwave away the various different ages we've seen the various different Soongs. Or a combination of the two ideas: the bodies are clones, but the mind is the one Soong.

All crammed into 38 minutes.

Picard has blood and organs as a disguise, whether those blood and organs serve some essential purpose is another matter entirely. I recall Data talking about his humanesque parts serving secondary functions beyond his ability to pass for an organic life form.

First sentence admits Picard has blood. First complaint is that he has a pulse

So you’re happy with him having blood as long as it all just sits stationary.

Also having Androids that are so close to human as to not tell the difference isn’t new. We’ve got TOS and Juliana Tainer.

Picard was given Arik Soong's Gollum.

A specialized android designed to absorb an organic personality and they copy their physical requirements exactly.

The promise that Picard had a normal human life span and capabilities suggests to me that all that biology may not keep him alive, or able... I think it's an off switch. A massive off switch. When his fake biology receives damage, his actual synth biology "mimics" damage to give Picard a complete human experience.

I suspect "truthchampion" is "Nitpicking Nerd" aka "Major Grin". His litany of nitpicks are very similar to the Nitpicking Nerd videos on youtube where he does 2-3 rant videos per episode, nitpicking everything in the show.

It’s ok to not like a show, or certain aspects about that show. But if your modus operandi is to purposely nitpick every single thing about that show in order to be a troll, you should be asking yourself if you really need to be watching that show at all, or doing something more constructive with your time. Because it’s one thing if you’re catering to an audience that thinks exactly like you do, but it’s another thing entirely if you’re purposely doing it just to piss off your audience. And it’s not like we don’t know which option is happening here. The only reason why people like this do this rather than make a blog of their own is because nobody reads blogs.
