So is Picard really Picard or is he just a copy? Since transporters exist, isn't he now a copy (of a copy)^5000 that was transcoded?

Data was clearly a copy of a backup.

Yeah, what the heck did that have to do with the rest of the season? The whole time they were on that kick, I was thinking "wait, where did this come from? Did I miss something?"
Right from the beginning with that doctor telling Picard he was dying before he went into space. Picard chose to go out facing death quick instead of trying to not die as slow as possible on earth.

Not sure what the "lesson" was. They just happened to have reconstructed Data's Katra. He was living in the Katric Arc but he seemed to have wanted what Vampires call, the true death. Why they had Data's katra is not clear. B4 was dis-assembled in a drawer back on Earth. So apparently there is a 2nd, separate copy of DataKatra just sitting there. Not because they wanted to bring him back, because Soong wanted that body for himself. It was just there on the shelf for no apparent reason except to give Data and Picard the goodbye they didnt get before.

Clearly, in the 24th Century, dying on a daily basis, is just something people do, like SEX.
Some may even do it multiple times a day.
(and actually enjoy it)

That moment when you realize that Brent Spiner's Data lasted for almost 33 years between his first and last appearance while William Shatner's Kirk lasted about 29-1/2 from the filming of "WNMHGB" to the theatrical release of GEN.

Didn't Agnes say way back that they downloaded the D/data in B4 because he couldn't handle it and was shutting down?

The Professor Moriarty hologram did describe his existence stored inside the Enterprise-D holodeck computer as, if my memory serves, a long void punctuated by moments of terrified awareness. Data's existence inside Maddox's computer may have been a long and dull existence for him even if it didn't feel like almost 20 years in human time.
