A while back, I wrote a fic called "Double Life" that was set after Voyager. I predicted that Seven would have a ship of her own.

My prediction was realized (even if it did get trashed at the end of "Absolute Candor" ;) ).

The appearance of Seven in a ship was unexpected. I'd assumed when I saw Jeri Ryan's name she'd be on the planet for some reason.

Holodecks, never leave them. I probably wouldn't emerge for a few years anyway.

Actually, What I'd like is the simulation that allows you to live a lifetime in 25 minutes, as in "The Inner Light". Imagine, in a single lifetime you could live for millennia. I estimate more than a million years !!!

That’s what I don’t understand. The Galaxy is more than the just Federation. Ask one one of the other powers to help. Sure it’s a long shot but he’s Picard. He has the power to persuade people with speech.
I think the implication here is that there would be no other power as beneficent as the UFP had historically been about a situation like this, regarding a regime that for centuries had been universally distrusted, feared, & largely reviled. Point being, for Romulans in need, the UFP was the last stop for humanitarian aid, & even they backed out of their longstanding principles & turned away

IMHO this is a damn "Dark Ages" for this franchise's universe. When the Federation closes its doors to people in need, begins sanctions and bans on specific types of life forms, & spits vulgarities at its model representatives, then I must agree with Picard, that this is not Starfleet anymore

Picard should have asked Q, he could do it with a snap of his fingers.

I'd suggest the 'wildly out of character' part is precisely why those people have been so disappointed with him. Disappointment is generally wrapped up in high expectations.

Your second point is definitely something to think about though. Those parts do seem thinly written; either that or Picard is a selfish asshole and we know that's not true.

Picard may not be a selfish asshole, but we've seen it presented numerous enough times that he has a marked tendency to be a self-righteous asshole.

I think they have also made the Universe more realistically big - if you live outside the borders of a major power... good luck.

That Q is absent is maybe the darkest, most foreboding aspect to this whole thing. It's like Picard is not even worth the trouble anymore. I'm pretty sure that the most prominent sign that this is the most hopeless of times is that Q can't even be bothered
