Not sure i see that with the mandalorian. He's a single dad, gets beaten in fights all the time, is generally thoughtful and softly spoken and isn't afraid to ask for help. Not sure how any of those are 'masculine cliches'

His only go to when it comes to protecting his own is killing a whole lot of people and looking very cool doing it. Whether he succeeds is besides the point.

I will say that in the show it kind of bugs me how pretty much everyone young, even the aliens, act and talk like 21st Century Millennials. No one feels "alien enough."

And why was the Trill girl in the cube having trouble fastening her coveralls? New to the host and the connections to the fingers aren't quite there yet? I mean Soji (or whatever her name is) had to go over than practically finish dressing her.

In the 24th Century we don’t exist for the pursuit of zips and buttons, we strive for higher things.
They still have zips and buttons on Romulan ran Borg Cube day trips.

You'll notice the only time Picard loses his shit,at least in TNG, is when he feels the guiding doctrines and core of the Federation/Starfleet are being damaged or insulted.

He gets very worked up in Measure of a Man in Data's hearing, he gets very upset at Wesley when he is participating in the cover of up of the cadets death at the Academy ("the first duty of a Starfleet officer is to the truth! etc"), he gets extremely upset at Riker in The Pegasus when he feels like Riker is being dishonest with him and violating what it means to be a Starfleet officer.

We saw that again in the first episode when he gets upset at what he sees as SF betraying itself, and again at Adm Clancey.

It's Picard's trigger.

I said rare. And this was hardly The Pegasus 2.0. He very quickly flew off the handle. That's not TNG era Picard.
Tell that to Riker in "The Pegasus".

My point: Picard blew up (as he has in the past) as soon as someone said: "No, I don;'t think so..."

We have to believe a little in the Irumotic syndrome, it ties nicely back to AGT.
That way, when John De Lancie guest stars and lets Picard undo Nemesis in the last episode, it will all make sense. ;)
Maybe Q can flash Disco while he’s at it. He doesn’t often seem like one for control.

Picard always has a problem when people aren't doing what he thinks he should do. Most of the time, he comes across as a pompous ass.

He gets upset when what he feels is right *is* what is considered right by the foundations of the Federation and Starfleet.

The thing is, it isn't his job to reverse Federation policy or decisions. Not in his role as a starship captain. I'm surprised his actions in either "The Pegasus" or Star Trek: Insurrection didn't get him drummed out of Starfleet.

His actions in The Pegasus was because it was a clear violation of the peace treaty with the Romulans, and not done with the consent of the Federation or Starfleet as a whole.

I'll grant the Insurrection thing

That wasn't his job to communicate with the Romulan government on the matter. That is why there is a Federation Council and Ambassadors. To take care of those types of communications.

He never says he will be doing the communication, just that their government will receive a message shortly.

Wow, lots of great stuff

Replicators have changes - they’ve got better, it was acknowledged

Worf and Geordi still alive

Picard has acces to a transporter to beam directly into a private apartment he has lost relation to

Badmiral is just a dozy Admiral with an agist grump

Young receptionist only person on Earth that doesn’t watch the news

Synths killed them selves after attacking mars - hide the evidence

No sign of section 31 yet, just super secret tal shiar

Raffi lives near the reef formed by the Hermosa quake

Poor Picard doesn’t realise he has enemies in starfleet, not bad enemies, just office politics. Thought the tricky part would be medical clearance.

“I’m willing to be demoted”. You ain’t Jim Kirk mate.

Is this the first commodore we’ve seen since TOS?

I do like the Romulan couple, so realistic.

Romulan (Star) Empire no longer exists, only the “Romulan Free State”. Does the treaty of Algeron still apply?

The admiral looks like a huge steaming pile of dogshit was dropped in front of her from the get go. TNG Picard might have noticed that perhaps a little diplomacy was in order.
