I am genuinely upset that Giant Spock Clone™ was killed off. Spock Prime dies? Pfft, there's an exact, albeit 50-foot-tall copy of him out there.
I quit Lower Decks in disgust in the middle of Season 1 Episode 5, but reading about Spock 2's death on a message board elsewhere brought me here regardless. Whoa. So I guess we can honestly say that the animated series is definitely canon now huh?

I saw a screenshot where Spock 2's corpse was in his TAS uniform. So did he die shortly after TAS, or did he live a long life like Spock Prime and just happened to be in his TAS uniform when he died? Spock lived till 161 though, so Spock 2 only lived to 151 or younger and seemingly died early (although it's never quite clear just whether that whole Genesis reaging thing affected Spock Prime's remaining lifespan in any way).

I suspect that maybe the TAS uniform was put back on Spock 2 after he died, since that's the one he arrived in. I doubt he was wearing it the whole time, unless he found a way to make more.

Being a giant probably accelerated any preexisting health issues.

Yeah. The “complex twists” line doesn’t work with Kurtzman.

It's meant to be flattering criticism at worst. Probably because he's the Q of their universe.

Per IMDB, the unknown species First Officer is named Ottesa Warren. They also list an Ensign Barnes and a Lieutenant Commander Stevens, but I'm not sure if those were Titan officers or not.
None of those are Titan Crew Members

Barnes is the Trill Rutherford was/is dating, Stevens is the one who worships Ransom, and Ottesa was a Trill officer that came with Mariner's Captain friend in Season 1.

Ah, I wasn't sure on the first two, but someone said the Titan's First Officer was voiced by Vanessa Marshall and she's listed as doing Lieutenant Ottessa Warren and U.S.S. Merced Science Officer.

It lost a point because of the puppet ray. I know this is a comedy, but that's beyond even Discovery/Voyager "science". He may as well have been hit by a magic wand. Then the doctor goes beyond Threshold and turns a puppet back into a healthy living person. How are people in Starfleet ever killed in things like phaser fights and shuttle crashes? How are any diseases fatal? I get it's a comedy, and I love it and this only dropped it from a 9 to an 8, but jeez. I'm also not crazy about the communal sower: I was barely on board with the communal hallway bunk beds.

It does seem strange that Riker, of all Trek characters, one of the most overly serious and buttoned up career oriented officers, ends up in the comedy show of Lower Decks. I mean he showed a lighter side once in a while in TNG, but that got overshadowed by the number of times he was grim and serious.

I liked this better than the premiere episode. I appreciated the little bit of Titan being like a serialized show akin to Discovery versus the throwback to TNG that Lower Decks is.

I really love how this episode was a commentary on Star Trek in general (about how some writers love the "pew pew" and how that isn't what real Star Trek is........in fact, I think this episode was pointing the finger at the Kelvin movies and Discovery).

I think Lower Decks is just an interpretation of what "really" happened as seen through the eyes of the in-universe writer of these events, if that makes any sense. This goes for all of the other Trek series and movies as well.

Well, a definite improvement over the not-great-at-all premiere.

I wasn't super crazy about the concept of the "collector" ship and it was a joke that never really paid off.

But some decent character work with Mariner, who is frequently way too annoying.

Wish they had had a little more fun with the Tamarian and played up his communication difficulties more.

But, credit where credit is due, the idea of getting Boimler back on the show by creating a Tom Riker-esque duplicate of him was absolutely inspired. I'm sorry we won't see more of the actual Riker on the Titan anymore, but the jokes with him were wearing a little thin anyway.

Overall, pleasant. A few missed opportunities, but mostly entertaining and great in at least one isolated spot.

I give the episode an "8". With Boilmler back, I hope that we can now focus on a cohesive Season #2. Yay!

As far as the sonic shower scene "controversy" goes in this episode, it shouldn't be a big deal to have communal showers, given the nature of Starfleet and the 24th century. I am surprised that we, here in the 21st century, having made the turn towards having the military go "communal" by now...

On a slightly "side note", I like the fact that the United States still embrace the concept of "modesty", when it comes to nudity. It makes the country unique in that regard, and personally, I find that proponents of "public nudity acceptance" to be, well, narcissists in constant need for attention, IMO.

He served under a regularly grim and serious captain on the Enterprise who set the tone on that ship. On the Titan, Riker has apparently moved out of Picard's shadow and is a more boisterous, shoot-from-the-hip captain--perfectly suited for LD at this point in his career.
:D
