It does seem strange that Riker, of all Trek characters, one of the most overly serious and buttoned up career oriented officers, ends up in the comedy show of Lower Decks. I mean he showed a lighter side once in a while in TNG, but that got overshadowed by the number of times he was grim and serious.

I honestly never saw him as that serious, except in Very Serious Situations. But that may be my impression based on 7 seasons combined. I remember him smirking a lot. :)

What is real Star Trek? Still waiting on a good answer at this point given that action has been there since the beginning.

Maybe I should put this in the "controversial ST opinions" thread, but to me, any show or movie with "Star Trek" in the title is real Star Trek. I may not like everything, but I'm not going to say it's not "real".

I thought the communal showers was a Starship Troopers gag

Me too! And I loved watching Mariner and Jet play "who's more macho?"

The Titan's shuttles are apparently named after Jazz musicians.

That's awesome!

@Nerys Myk and @cooleddie74 I love you guys.

Despite the fact that it was presented as another Thomas Riker situation, I was left with the impression that Boimler being doubled might be more of an "Enemy Within" scenario. That Titan Boimler seemed more outgoing and attention seeking than "regular" Boimler. He also seemed more amoral with that little trick he pulled. I think its going to reach a point where they have to be reintegrated.

So this collector seemed to be a Zibalian like Kivas Fajo, who likely might have been a member of this Collector's Guild as well. Maybe the Zibalians were the ones who founded this organization?

The guy who came to see Data after Kivas Fajo abducted him was part of the Collectors' Guild, wasn't he?

Yeah, I got that impression as well from the way Boimler 2 was carrying on with Riker.

*** GO BACK! DON'T SAY I DIDN'T WARN YE! ***

This one gets a 7 out of 10 from me. Not quite as fun as last week, but still funny, and I loved Kayshon the doll. I want one.

Merchandise, where the real money from the TV show is made.

I think we've seen the end of the Titan crew for a while, which is a shame because Jonathan Frakes is chewing every bit of the scenery and I am all in for it, and clearly Boimler's out of his league on that ship. Speaking of, so they took the classic Trekkian transporter tricky way out and now there are two Boimlers roaming the universe. That's daunting.

That said, the gang's all back together, and things will readjust to what passes for normal. Can't wait for next week!

I just had a thought about Boimler. I could easily see him posting on this board in the TNG Forum. Or posting in GTD defending TNG in a TNG vs. DS9 Debate, or criticizing DSC and PIC. McMahan did a good job of having Boimler represent an in-universe TNG Fan. I could see a lot of people saying, "Boimler gets it! He's my guy!"

And, yes, Boimler and I probably would've gotten into a lot of arguments over the years, if he were a member here. Which in turn makes me say, "Yup. He's not my guy, but I know this guy too, in a way!"

Thing is, Boimler WASN'T out of his league on the Titan. He was getting everything done that Riker was putting on him (I half-expected him to mess up the Attack Pattern Delta order but he aced it) - he's just freaked out by having to do it, and so often. And even freaking out, he worked out the way to get the Away Team off the mining colony.

Put him back on the Cerritos and I'll bet he might slowly realize that he's actually pretty damn good at his job (and not just purging). He just needs time to gain confidence in himself, then those Titan situations won't seem as intimidating.

Interesting observation and I'm surprised it's one I didn't consider, (IE that they were combining aspects from both of the episodes involving transporter duplication); because yeah the transporter clone was definitely more assertive / gung-ho and seemed less detail oriented / neurotic than the original Boimler.
