You're allowed to have an opinion, as long as you like it.

It's maybe worth checking out, I'll prob keep trying it until Mariner breaks be because right now she's the hardest part to take.

When you’re constantly on about how young people shouldn’t be acting human, it is hard to take your opinion seriously.

And who said they shouldn't act human?

Anyone? Anyone?

No?

Just that they're not acting in a way consistent with how we've seen people behave in the past in this franchise who all managed to behave human without looking like they were plucked right out of the decade the show was made in?

I mean, Picard behaved like a human and did it without (insert some 80s behavior thing here.)

You mean how folks act like they have a Starfleet issued painstick shoved up their rears? We’ve seen very little of the lower end folks, so I don’t see any real conflict here.

I mean TOS definitely felt that way at times. Certainly Trek has used turns of phrase consistent with the culture in which it was made.

I didn't find Picard very human or relatable at times so I disagree with that point too.

There is an a balance to be struck but I don't think use contemporary colloquialisms is a bad thing.

And, to use another colloquialism, mileage will vary.

Reactions: Sci
Cirroc Lofton mentioned that the DS9 writers avoided contemporary phrases like "hey what's up man" to highlight that we're 400 years in the future

I think they should use modern terms but it would make sense to use stuff that has already been around and stood the test of time. Like nobody is going to stop sayin Fuck or Shit anytime soon. But I doubt people are going to still be saying things like "Let's get lit" if they want to do drugs or "Your on Fire" when talking about someone doing something cool. On the other hand people have been saying stuff like "Well I guess the cats out of the bag now" or "I want to film" this even though people don't use film for awhile and these kind of phrases I feel are long term jargon that ages well when used.
