    Very excited abot this book.

For those that don't know, Curt and Dave run www.startrekhistory.com, a terrific website that - unlike a lot of nonfiction about the show - is fastidiously researched and exceptionally reliable.

Ooh! Now this sounds fantastic! Where is this DVD of lost footage, by the way?

It is a Blu-ray release called “The Roddenberry Vault.”

The retail price is only $40, and I'm sure it'll be discounted on Amazon, so it's not a lot of....cash.

I got a sneak preview of this book a while back because the hoopy frood authors asked me to read the text and give feedback on it, notably in terms of making sure the film-lingo was correct but also something that would not be confusing to non-filmmakers. From what I saw it's going to be a fab book.

Hoping this book doesn’t repeat all of the material that was already seen in the Roddenberry Valut Blu-ray, but the restoration efforts of this book are putting that release to shame.

Not to give the Roddenberry Vault a complete pass, but reconstructing deleted scenes in a book from still frames and script pages is a different project than presenting entire sequences in motion on home video.

A big difference—beyond the obvious ones between stills and moving images—is there's actual context in the book, explaining how stuff was shot the way it was, etc. It's mercifully absent the self-congratulatory tone so prevalent on videos about StarTrek and sticks to factual accounts of the making of the show.

This sure looks like a must-have. I've been a fan of startrekhistory.com for years and I'm glad they are finally compiling their work in what looks like an awesome book. I must say though, I half-expected floating watermarks covering the images in the book.

I enjoyed the Roddenberry Vault for what it was. I was just disappointed there wasn't more.

This. It whet my appetite for more, particularly the small sample of previously unseen Enterprise footage. It would be very interesting to see what else they would like to have done given the chance.

The deleted footage was fascinating to see, but the talking heads offering empty superlatives while the people who actually worked on the show (e.g. Joe D'Agosta) were relegated to brief appearances struck me as a massively missed opportunity.
