This is obviously wonderful news, but certainly not a surprise.

I view it as another great opportunity to have an arc and set of "new" characters join a formula I'm already pretty happy with. If the show continues to improve (most Treks made a huge leap between their 2nd and 3rd seasons), this could be tremendous. It also more than likely puts some of those other Trek projects being considered in a healthier position.

Congrats to CBSAA and to everyone at Star Trek: Discovery.

I think it was amazingly obvious almost immediately that Spock did NOT murder anyone, and that something else is going on with this situation.

But do remember, these folks did tell us upfront they were acknowledging rumors. Everyone's already full of delicious tears that seems to be a popular dish for many nowadays, let's have something of substance instead. Would Kirk or Sisko or Janeway sit there and talk of tasty lacrimal secretions?

The issue I'm having with these people is how they are seeing success in the new Trek, and they, again smugly, assure us that this proves that the franchise is dying. They see white, and say that it is black. This level of delusion is an insult to human intellect and taints the ability to discuss rationally about the show.

So I for one, am deeply appreciative when They bring somebody on board who at least has a clue.

That list also includes Harve Bennett, Nick Meyer, Rick Berman and Michael Piller.

If I want to jerk it to canon, I can just go flip through the Star Trek Encyclopedia.

And Ira Steven Behr. And, I'd assume, Gene L. Coon ...technically.

Now that Discovery is renewed for Season 3, I do wonder more about Anson Mount's tweet that kind of set off the rumor mill. To not get negative, I wonder what will happen to them at the end of the season. Maybe they aren't coming back for Season 3 (Heck, someone needs to command the Enterprise) but I wonder what will happen to set that off. Kind of makes me a little more excited for the end of the season.

As much as I've been loving Mount's Pike, I always assumed this was a one-season-and-done full-time cast member thing like with Glenn Close on The Shield.

I would bet $1000 they couldn't even accurately define what socialism is without looking it up.

Re: Kurtzman, I never got the impression that he wanted to be so intimately involved -- more that he was forced into the role by circumstance. I can see him trying to clear his plate as quickly as possible. After all, he has a whole universe to run.

Re: Discovery: Season two has been a huge improvement over season one, and I hope three continues that upward trend.

I do recall an article where he was saying that he spent most of last season on Discovery in post-production, like in the editing process.
