Star Trek Discovery Renewed For Season 3

Ethan Peck has a bit of a 'name' I guess. All the Kelvin films used to say "starring John Cho" and I'd think "really?!"

I was looking at his IMDB and it's a lot of variety of things, but he doesn't really scream "Name" to me. Not taking anything away but I think his most prominant role other than Discovery is probably 10 Things I hate About You (Which I thought was just a movie).

"Michelle joined us midway through season two and energized the room with her ferocious knowledge of Trek," Kurtzman said. "Her grasp of character and story detail, her drive and her focus have already become essential in ensuring the Trek legacy, and her fresh perspective always keeps us looking forward. I’m proud to say Michelle and I are officially running Star Trek: Discovery together."

I know they keep mentioning their "Trek knowledge", but I really don't care. I want to hear how great a writer she is.

We've already seen what can happen when They hire somebody with little to no Trek knowledge...

So I for one, am deeply appreciative when They bring somebody on board who at least has a clue.
(if not more)

Re: Kurtzman, I never got the impression that he wanted to be so intimately involved -- more that he was forced into the role by circumstance. I can see him trying to clear his plate as quickly as possible. After all, he has a whole universe to run.

Re: Discovery: Season two has been a huge improvement over season one, and I hope three continues that upward trend.

That's good news!
I enjoy the series but I feel like it's still finding itself. Like the old spin-off series that needed 2-3 seasons to transition from "early installment weirdness" to being proper.

My guess is after Berg and Herberts were fired, Kurtzman thought, "Shit! We're five episodes into the new season! I don't have time to stop everything and look for a new showrunner! I'll do it myself. We have deadlines to meet!"

Then, while keeping the writing of the season going, he went looking for a potential new showrunner during Episodes 6, 7, and 8 as he had time. After he decided to bring on Michelle Paradise, he probably said, "I see you've produced The Originals and worked on some other stuff. We had some problems with the previous showrunners, so let's see how you do as a regular writer and how you interact with the writing staff. I want everything to go smoothly."

Enter episodes 9, 13, and 14 to which she had writer credit for. Then Alex Kurtzman probably liked what he saw, liked how the writing staff gelled, and said, "Great! Congratulations! You're the new showrunner for Discovery! Now I have a focus on everything else! The Picard Series, Section 31, Lower Decks... And you thought you had a lot of work ahead of you!"

I bet you this is probably how it went.

Now that Discovery is renewed for Season 3, I do wonder more about Anson Mount's tweet that kind of set off the rumor mill. To not get negative, I wonder what will happen to them at the end of the season. Maybe they aren't coming back for Season 3 (Heck, someone needs to command the Enterprise) but I wonder what will happen to set that off. Kind of makes me a little more excited for the end of the season.

erm...he returns to the NCC 1701 and has a couple of years as captain of that ship ahead of him. Then he hands over said ship to a young captain named Kirk or something. A couple of months after that: accident and beep-beep weelchair.
