They also seem to have forgotten that Gray used to have a symbiont. He was never shown dealing with the loss of Tal. He just writes it off like it never happened.

I mean, a joined Trill losing his or her symbiont - even for a short time - is kind of a big deal, y'know? Look what happened to Jadzia when Dax was stolen from her (DS9's "Invasive Procedures"). She was really freaking out...
Grey decided to spend their entire life stirring mud because the Writers had no idea what to do with them.

I thought the episode was fine. A step up from last week in the very least.

It had a very old school TOS/TNG vibe. Like I can picture Kirk, Spock and McCoy or Riker/Troi taking the place of Burnham and Tilly.

but overall for the season it feels like the whole chase is running in super slow mo. Certainly not quite at the pace I was expecting after the season premiere.

Retinal tricorders feel like something that should have been introduced seasons ago.

I love that Kovich uses paper. I’m guessing he stocked up during the temporal wars.

7.5/10

It was funny, when I was watching the opening and it showed the infinity thing, I asked myself 'I wonder when we'll see the void again', and bam we did.

I didn't think there even WAS a PD issue. I mean, the culture was already immeasurably screwed with by the Denobulans. As soon as it became clear they'd built a while religion around that tech, the PD question becomes academic at most.

I gotta go with this, despite what I said upthread. If anything, Burnham is reversing the effects of the (unintentional) Denobulan contamination. It's no different from the religion of "The Picard" except that it lasted longer.

Interesting contrast to Kirk's style. He would have looked for some rationale which lets him do what he wants to do, but Burnham's just "screw it, we'll sort it out later."

So, you have two tasks that need doing: repairing an array (need an engineer) and running a race with no water (need someone fit).

Let's let Tilly run the race and Burnham fix the array.

So stupid.

For Pete's sake, does anyone even watch the episodes? The only time Tilly passed anyone is after they dropped out from thirst. Going slower is actually the best strategy, since you wouldn't dehydrate yourself as quickly.

That's what I was thinking. At some point they aren't even running. They are basically staggering to the finish line because of lack of water.

"This episode is symptomatic of everything that's been wrong with Star Trek for years. So rote and predictable and offered nothing fresh. We deserved better. 7 out of 10."

I found it really boring. Tedious. I hate the fact that I am going to eventually have to rewatch it another 4 to 10 times in my life before I die someday, but I am a Trekker. Doomed to watch even the bad ones over and over and over.

I tapped out after the first episode of S5. I'll tune back in for the penultimate in a couple of weeks, my theory being the recap will suffice in getting me up to speed. From skimming comments here and elsewhere, I have gleaned that:

- Rayner is XO
- Grey and Adria broke up
- Tilly is kind of (or a lot of) annoying
- Alien dude is a Breen, who apparently have a second, semi-gelatinous form / face
- The Enterprise and SNW's sets turned up
- Saru is MIA

Overall, sounds like it's been so-so to serviceable, with one episode punching above mediocre (the time travel one).

This would have been the perfect moment to kill Tilly off.

Then Burnham washes her hands of these iron age monkeys before she fixes their ecology.

"But Captain! All the choking babies!"

"Tilly's dead. F###'em."

At least nobody almost got sacrificed to a sentient volcano by a psychic baby for covering their navels.
