That's how badly Adira's been written. WE'RE FORGETTING THEY CARRY A SYMBIONT.
What does that tell you?
What does that tell you?
So have the writers.I'd completely forgotten about the symbiont.
Why? Adira hasn't been the focus of this season... The role of the symbiont just wasn't very relevant for the story this season... Don't be so dramatic about it....So have the writers.![]()
It's not important to the current story. That's how badly Adira's been written. WE'RE FORGETTING THEY CARRY A SYMBIONT.
What does that tell you?
The current story of them sitting around doing nothing and bemoaning their personal problems? It's not important to the current story.
The symbiont is not a problem. The current story of them sitting around doing nothing and bemoaning their personal problems?
That seems odd given how relevant having a symbiot would be to that.
Season 5 is going to have 10 episodes, so maybe that will help.issues with filling out the required number of episode.
Agreed with everything.I really liked this episode, and I'm really liking this season as a whole. I'm not bothered by the slow pace or the emphasis on emotions. In fact, it kind of baffles me that Trek-fans would see both elements as negatives instead of positives. This season is taking a long time debating questions regarding communication, and I think it's not really about the grand story arch regarding the 10-C and the DMA: I think the moments in between are far more important. We've had so many great character arcs throughout, and I really think DSC is doing things no other ST series has ever done before: in that regard, I think DSC is the most unique, distinctive of all ST series. For some, it's for the worse, for me, it's for the better!
I think we all know how this season is going to end, and I think Michelle Paradise has hinted towards that months ago: the 10-C do not see humanoid life as sentient, just as we don't see a colony of ants as sentient when we're digging a hole in our garden. They are unaware of how their drilling for boronite affects us, but they will learn, by the end of episode 13. There is an awesome, truely Star Trek message and story in there, about understanding and finding a way to communicate. In essence, a season long Darmok/ (reversed) Home Soil hybrid.
It's tougher but it's a doable thing.Novelists have the advantage of (usually) having no time constraints, so they can polish up rough drafts, go back and add foreshadowing once they know the end, that sort of thing. TV writing in contrast is on an extreme time constraint.
Yes, exactly!if you write the whole thing *before* you start filming you can eliminate much of this issue.
I suspect that it's not filming yet. And they're saying there won't be any new ST series until one of the current one stops, which would be Picard. And then there's the question of which replacement would be first, S31 or the Academy series?I wouldn't have minded if she left the show as the Starfleet Academy show was actually starting, but it seems to me it wouldn't have been too hard to throw in a couple of scenes with her on Disco in between filming the other show (if it is filming already). I miss my Tilly fix of optimism and sassy fun.
same situation. A pity, as I really liked season 3 (apart from a couple of episodes, most notably the finale) and the beginning of season 4.I'm in a weird spot with Disco now. The show no longer annoys me as much in S1 and 2 did, but on the flip side it's not really engaging me hugely either. Fingers crossed season five finds a balance that clicks for me
I suspect their plan has changed.I suspect that it's not filming yet. And they're saying there won't be any new ST series until one of the current one stops, which would be Picard. And then there's the question of which replacement would be first, S31 or the Academy series?
How so?I suspect their plan has changed.
They're overlapping now (due to delays from Covid, but still... ) and I think they've said their stated goal is to have at least one series throughout the year. At least, as opposed to only. Those are what make me think it.How so?
The number of episodes and the skill of the scriptwriters are not the problem here. The main problem has been, from the beginning of the series, trying to make a series that is tailored for binge watching while cramming in a weekly broadcast cycle of one episode at a time. Unfortunately here you can't have your cake and eat it regardless of how you distribute the accents.Chelah Horsdal (President Rillak) and Hiro Kanagawa (Dr. Hirai) were both in 'The Man in the High Castle' Amazon series, but I don't believe they ever interacted, their characters were on opposite sides of the country in the story.
Season 5 is going to have 10 episodes, so maybe that will help.
