I really liked this one, just like the previous one. Gave this one an 8.
I do wonder though, since the new Starfleet Academy TV show is going to be set on New Earth, according to leaked documents from early last year, does it really mean Discovery has the guts to destroy Earth?

Woah I wonder that too. Discovery filming overlapped with SNW's Pre-production and filming, so it's possible.

Great episode. Some exciting action going through the Barrier, drama done right between Burnham and the president and Tarka and his friend, answers about Tarka and his motives, and some stunning visuals. 9/10.
I'm more convinced than ever that Kovich is a time traveler as well. The 21st century suit and glasses, the multi-era anachronistic translators, the Gilligan's Island "3 hour tour" reference, why he was brought in to interrogate and debrief the Disco crew...
I've got a feeling Tarka's friend is going to be revealed to be a part of or the entirety of Species 10-C. A previously unknown and unnamed but super-advanced alien species whose energy source to reach their multiverse "paradise" can only be supplied by something as powerful as the DMA's Omega Particle core and now that shows up in our galaxy after he's escaped Emerald Chain custody?
Daaaaaaaaaaaaaaaamn, Saru got friendzoned hard. I know she said she found him a comforting presence later and obviously does care for him, but it was rough when she walked off the first time.
I'm glad Burnham pointed out to the President that it's disruptive to the operations of the ship and crew to have her and the chain of command undermined on the bridge, and that the President cooperated. That should have been what was said to having Nhan on the bridge second guessing her before, but we can infer that Burnham learned from that experience and was not going to allow it to happen again.
If not for the fact that it's a cliche of Trek and science fiction in general to go after the protagonist's and audience's homeworld, and if not for the the alien prison colony also being hit, I would say the DMA has a grudge** for Michael Burnham — it's attacked her boyfriend's homeworld and now it's going after her two homeworlds. I know it's just coincidence and cliche since every big anomaly or galactic scale threat always goes after Earth (or Vulcan), but still.
** Hey, maybe Species 10-C means Ten Cats and it's Grudge's space-cat family seeking revenge for his imprisonment as Book's (and later Michael's when she lived on Book's ship) pet.
It made sense in this episode, but the series and this season has had way too many impactful goodbye moments and it's kind of overdone now. This one was handled as well and relatively quickly as can be though despite that, and didn't get too melodramatic.

T'rina is Vulcan. Vulcans are not known for bearing their souls or emotional connections. Vulcan relationships are ritualistic and logical.
I had an intuition that people would complain about the galactic barrier. How it looks, how it functions, how Discovery can't simply go over it, etc. Things change in 900 years and the gb is one those things - this is how I rationalize it.
This season is the definition of langour. The writers were given a mandate to fill a 13-episode season with a story arc where the crew faces a galactic threat and they have dragged it out. With 71 hours left to save Earth and Vulcan and everything in between, in a better paced season or episode, they would have solved this more quickly. Unfortunately, this is Discovery so for the next three episodes we are going to feel every one of those 71 hours. Ugh.

I mean, besides the scenes with the GB, this episode once again misled us into thinking this would be something else in its preview, only to give us mostly a background story of that guy I can't remember the name of. I don't know if its just me, but I'm really or have already lost interest this season, and just watching to finish it now.
Kirk made it through the barrier four times on about 5 minutes each. It was pretty routine by the Kelvan incursion. Discovery took an episode. All I ask is one or two filler lines laying that out - “it’s much worse here near the 10C”.
I enjoy a good character study as well as anyone but that was a LOT of time on a minor player. Tarka friend better be in charge of the 10c or this is quite unneeded.

Absolutely correct! I feel like we're the audience and extras from Monty Python telling the show to "GET ON WITH IT!" solving the storyline. And OF COURSE they decide ONCE AGAIN to do the action packed episodes at the end of the season where ALL WILL BE REVEALED AND TURNS INTO....a big nothing burger! Don't expect there to be an epic resolution or whatever...its going to be some alien that has X power and didn't mean to use it on Y people, but still has a Z plot to do what they do....
Is this the first Spore Jump in a long time since Stamets has been off his target by a significant amount?

I was expecting a Purple to Pink colored Glow for the Galactic Barrier, where's the Purple to Pink Glow?
Instead, I get a Orange Trimmed Space Lightning Storm with Bubbles.
I kinda hope 10C is the Andromadens that Kirk met.

Didn’t they say in season one that they could spore jump anywhere in the universe? Now it just seems in their Galaxy.
Looks like Doug Drexler’s idea of the Enterprise J being a Universe class ship that travel to different galaxies has been squashed. These writers are very lacking when it comes to making the the 32nd century look more advanced than what came before.
