I like the new Federation more than the STD crew.

Michael Burnham was planning a mutiny, again.
Why is Michael Burnham, a being of exquisite logic, now an expert in providing emotional support and motivational speeches?
If there hasn't been a crossing between the mirror and the prime universe in the past 500 years, how did the Federation conduct research into Terran biology? Did they keep people in stasis? Why would the Federation conduct that research after the burn, with all the political turmoil and limited resources?

Interesting the liberal use of holograms- disturbing that they're little more developed from what we saw in Picard.
Where are the androids? The prohibition was lifted at the end of Picard series 1. I would have expected to see more of them by now (although they seem to use robots much more than ever seen before)

Holograms do offer a lot of advantages over androids. Holograms don't have physical bodies that can get damaged like androids. Holograms can easily be projected in multiple locations at once whereas an android can only be in one place at a time. So it could be that Starfleet just prefers holograms over androids because of the benefits they provide.

Well, she's obviously (back to) the best in anything, which is why Saru had to be kept in HQ for her to lead the mission, too. Honestly, with Burnham, the authors want to have their cake and eat it, too. She even kind of put the Admiral in his place. OK, she was mildly rebuked, but we know she is right. If she's so capable, just make her the captain.

She's also always the very best friend of every single person, which is why we got a tearful good-bye between her and Nhan. *eyeroll*

Anyway, I'll rewatch before I post more, but I forgot to mention some totally random thing: The officer who accompanied our whacky crew totally reminded me of Ivanova of Babylon 5.

The research comes from the between the 24th and 27th Century. That's 300 years to work with to learn about Terran Biology. And all that research would be on record.

The Fed likely conducted research on Terrans before the Burn. If the last crossing was 500 years ago and the Burn was 100 years ago, it works out. Maybe this is a wink to Mirror Picard in Picard or something.

Let's not all become fans of Vance and the new Fed yet. They still have to become the evil Vdraysh that's beating up Craft's hapless people right? Also, how come Calypso didn't show Discovery retrofitted with a full holodeck? (Craft only danced with a primitive holographic Zora on the bridge) And how could Vance and the new Fed lose an important ship like Discovery for a thousand years? Hope they replicated the spore drive first.

I totally get Michael becoming an emotional psycho. All those years of trained Vulcan repression and now she's able to let loose. It's like how Jedi like Anakin and Dooku just completely go crazy with emotions once they ditched enforced Jedi repression of attachments and passion over at Star Wars.

5th episode in a row (of season 3) where people get teary eyed. And more mysteries on top of mysteries. I'm looking forward to the episodic format of Strange New Worlds.

Voyager J though gets a thumbs up.

They probably dumbed down the Holograms to prevent them from reaching sentience like the Doctor. Can't have your holographic crew suddenly deciding they don't want to do dangerous stuff.

The hologram said to the Empress "in the past hundred years"

Which she also dismissed as made up nonsense (and no one chose to correct her)... and later on, the real debriefer (what's his name) told Georgiou that there hadn't been a crossing between the two universes in 500 years.

Also, its posisble they had some Terran DNA in storage or stasis... allowing a more thorough examination over times as technology improved (but its possible/highly likely the DNA thing was a misdirection to get her to talk).

Still, for Georgiou to be able to shut down the holograms with blinking... its a bit preposterous really. You'd think in 930 years, Starfleet would have removed that vulnerability.

Captains stopped leading away missions after TOS for some reason, so it's not really new.
I don't think Star Fleet was ever really crazy about their Captains going on away missions.

I think the Admirals just tolerated it from their top performing officers because they were on the whole, successful.
I would imagine the standing order was for the First Officers to discourage it if they were able.

I’m guessing Cronenberg is Terran. The eye wear being the give away, like Lorcas eye drops.

The Federations cold shoulder to Discovery, whilst uncomfortable, was realistic. Even Burnhams reunion with Discovery after being apart from them for a year was awkward for her.

Was great to actually see Burnham in charge of Discovery. I stick by my original statement that in the final ever season (or episode) of the show, she will become the ships captain. The whole show is basically based around redemption for her.

Hmmmmmmm
Perhaps you saw several? Are they supposed to be branded with a scarlet letter A? In the time since Picard you would think they have advanced........and the newest ones in Picard were hard to tell from humans.

Not anymore. Everything else in Trek is now a prequel to Discovery Season 3.
Yes, but your point was Captains stopped leading away missions after TOS. In television terms, yes. In Trek Universe terms the Discovery is behind TOS so would still be following that tradition.

I think that's a given from the very start. You make a main character not the captain it's easy to guess where they're heading.

Admiral Vance: Commander Burnham, I will not sanction a mission to the Mushroom Kingdom to harvest their spores. Your reckless disobedience has caused nothing but trouble for the Federation since you arrived and--

(Burnham presses an area on Vance's back and he slumps over deactivated)

Saru: I had read in the news archives that synths had achieved full equal status within the Federation, but I had no idea to what extent.

Burnham: So are you coming Saru? We have some Italian plumbers to deal with.

That’s only in an alternate future.

They're all alternate futures. None of this will happen in 2550 or 3190. I was just comparing one timeline's Enterprise legacy to another timeline's Voyager legacy.

For Christ's sake, man, you don't have to go into temporal mechanics and alternate histories and Sphere Builders and Na'kuhl every time someone off-handedly mentions the Enterprise-J.
