Why would that assume that? If Discovery is destroyed, the data is gone.

In fact, and I may have misinterpreted this part in amongst the explosions, it seemed like Georgiou had transferred the data onto her Apple Watch, so couldn't they just destroy that? It can't defend itself.

The storyline played out like it was written by old people unfamiliar with computers or viruses, starting way back when Amanda "stole" Spock's medical record, like it was an old-fashioned paper file.

So now either Discovery is 51,000 ly away or in the 32nd century. So season 3 will either be a Voyager rehash or about a crew and ship 930 years behind the times trying to assimilate into a future so distant even English should be gibberish to them. Both ideas sound uninteresting to me.

I thought the final signal was simply to make it clear they had survived and not that Discovery itself was 51,000 ly away?

Maybe Federation types have colonized 50,000 light years out, five or six hundred years after Voyager.

Scenario: battle appears to be won. Pike calls ceasefire, orders Burnham to turn off the wormhole, Discovery to abandon ship, disable shield generators and prepare to scuttle her.

control 2.0 swoops in and gets sphere data while they are settting up to destroy her, then jumps into the Cleave Ship and splits. Not likely but not impossible. Losing Discovery and her crew was an acceptable loss considering the stakes.

Expecially if you've got Captain Christopher "Sacrifice is the greatest act of all" Pike making that decision.

They didn’t even follow up on what caused the Enterprise to shut down at the start of the season. You’d think they would want to know so it doesn’t happen again.
Wasn't that the holographic thing that they've gotten rid off. Not sure I want much covered on that!

Well, if she 'moved' the file instead of 'copying' it, what is the result on our computers?

So how does all this tie into "Calypso"?

That ep takes place a thousand years after DSC, with the ship abandoned and drifting for a thousand years. But now they're not quite that many years in the future (950, I think it was), and the ship still has its crew. So what happens now?

They'd have to send the ship back to 2257 and have it drift a millennium for the crew to pick it up. And I don't see why they'd do that, since the whole point was to get the ship to the future where Control couldn't get at it (unless, in the future, they find some way of emptying the sphere data).

Perhaps the trailer for "Calypso" is inaccurate, and it actually takes place a thousand years after the future the ship is now in?

I'm imagining that there is going to be a bit of a gap of time beyond the obvious time jump at the end of the season when we pick up with the Disco crew. Perhaps for reasons that will become clear, the crew will need to abandon ship as the season starts. It might be cool if they go to Terralysium and have to be there for the first few episodes as they flashback to the events that happened after the time jump. It could explain the rationale for the events of "Calypso" if they were planetbound for a few months because of reasons hereto untold. Perhaps something with the V'draysh?

Discovery could have a few more years on her before she gets dumped for centuries.

Having not seen "Calypso" in a while, I don't remember whether the AI makes it plain that it's a thousand years in DSC's future, or simply that she has been waiting a thousand years for the crew to return. If it's the latter, that Short Trek might take place a thousand years after the jump to the future, ie, 1950 years after DSC.

That's my worry. Basically Voyager, but with likable characters.

The problem with Voyager wasn't concept it was execution.

I have a strong, visceral dislike of any version of the "one ship stranded away from everyone they've ever known" story.

But, I always said the biggest problem with Voyager was terrible casting (there's only so much you can do to course correct when half the cast can't act), and I often think Discovery's greatest strength is perfect casting, so that's one thing helping me maintain my qualified optimism.

Of course. But aren't all of the Short Treks supposed to tie into this arc?

(Well, actually, Harry Mudd's didn't, so I guess Calypso doesn't have to...)
I think it was initially stated Calypso was more or less standalone. I thought it would tie-in anyway, but it seems clear they intend to leave it alone, for now. Maybe it will always be that way. I kind of like the idea.
