I think part of it was an attempt to win over the detractors, but i think they've learned by now that only the obliteration of Discovery will please these people, and won't be going that route again. See Oso Blanco above for reference.
Throwing them all wholesale 950 years in the future will give them all the room they want to change things, I suspect that Control is not defeated myself and they have to deal with it in the future as its a bit odd for it to be defeated by destroying just the one person.

They may use the upcoming short treks to show us.

I havent seen the episode yet though.

I got enough of Treks future with the Berman years.
I'm not especially looking forward to another 900 year jump.
:angryrazz:
If the Federation has been going for another 950 years when they get there what will be left to explore exactly.

Plus what letter will the Enterprise have in that era.

I don’t think the Federation is around then according to what Daniels implies in Enterprise. It might have evolved into something else.

Considering how regularly we've seen that Starfleet crews have to save the Federation year in, year out, one has to imagine that at some point someone is going to fail at the task and what they find in a millenium to come isn't actually recognizable as the federation we know of, expecially how common messing with time appears to have become in the Federation's future.

He also said "more or less" when Trip talked about Earth being still around. Daniels was a cryptic kind of guy.

8/10 I don't care I bloody liked it.

The final episode and here's my thoughts

It was a fun episode and yes there was tons of pew, pew action. I liked the big space battle and it was very well done, the episode looked felt like movie action and I enjoyed every single minute of it. 30 Section 31 ships hey I kind of knew it wasn't going to be that easy and sure enough all those drones popping out of those ships. It was good. I just loved it all. So they were building the timesuit right in the middle of the big battle which I also thought was kind of awesome and added to the tensions. Michael's visions of the battle and what's happening seemed to come true, but like Spock says it wasn't a fixed future she was seeing but one possible future.

But we did get the torpedo which was lodged in the hull of Enterprise just like her vision and yeah it detonated killing the lovely Admiral Cornwell. I was surprised that blast door held like that and there wasn't more immediate damage to the ship but yeah that's Star Trek for you and they pulled some wonderful plot armour there for Pike to return to the bridge. I was almost certain the blast wouldn't damage the saucer as the torpedo looked kind of damaged by the time they had got to it but yeah it took out a chunk of the saucer, but hey that blast door saved Pike and he was able to return to the bridge. Yay blast door you should become a regular crew member. Just on that why couldn't they have rigged something up to pull the door lever from the other side or why the door didn't have some kind of delay action giving you time to get to the other side before it closed. Little nitpicks but it didn't spoil my enjoyment of the episode.

I did like how in the moment when things looked most grim suddenly there's a huge Ba'ul ship. Seems the Kelpians did figure out how to drive them and yes there were no more Ba'ul by the look of it because that was their big ship. Yay for the Kelpians I'm glad they are now a space faring people. Also nice to see L'Rell and the Klingon fleet come to lend a hand for the short time we saw them. I figured that was what Tyler was up to when he said he had to leave last episode. He was trying to get a hand from the Klingons. L'Rell is awesome. "Today is a good day to die" and that laugh. She's so cool. So yeah overall I loved that they had some backup friends helping along. Po was cool too and even she helped with the fight. So her planet doesn't have a battle tentacle, so disappointing. I wanted to see that thing uncurl from the planet and smack ships. It would have been silly but most enjoyable.

Michael couldn't leave for the future she had to first send the other red signals before the time circuits would clear for the future. That's neat because I was thinking in linear terms and that maybe her computers were borked or something had gone wrong preventing her from leaving for the future, but no seems she had to send the other signals in order for her to then move forward in time. Again I didn't mind this. I really couldn't find anything to really scream about. I liked this episode a lot, my only main complaint is that the episode was broken in two. It would have felt much better had they screened all this as a single episode. I think I'd have then given it a 9.

Howcome we don't see who was talking to all the crewmembers? We only see his mouth and chin? Who was that guy?

Anyway I'm hyped for season 3.

I thought it was awful.

My main problem was the overdone battle sequence and the directing of it. The dialogue during the battle was pretty bad too. It were as though the director didn't trust the audience to be entertained by story so they had to do what they could with moving the camera, rotating it around characters, etc.

I felt like I was in a dark room, someone else has two TVs going. On one of them they are constantly re-watching all of the action sequences in the Transformers movies and on the other they are playing a video game. Meanwhile someone else starts flicking the lights on and off. Visually it was just.....bad.

And the overall story? I'm getting to the point where I wouldn't recommend the show to other people.

Spectacular. Who needs films when TV can deliver on this scale?

Liked it a lot more than the S1 final. It was a curious ending though - I wonder how many people will not be aware that it's continuing into a third season. I appreciate the mystery, but I hope people aren't misled.

So season 3 is going to be the adventures of a 1000 year out of date ship flying around?

Look I like the cast of discovery, I like some of the episodes and characters, I'm not a hater of this show by any means but I don't get this at all.

More and more I just feel like the people behind this show don't know what they are doing. Like they had an original plan but audience reaction keeps causing them to change their plans, and now they are throwing blindly, hoping something will hit.

I WANT TO defend this show, but at this stage, just give us a pike and spock show and let it end.

I'll of course give S3 a chance but I do not have high hopes.
Thats fair enough, it is a big jump.

Perhaps they wont end up going forward that far, we just dont know.

Wow, where to start?

Visually compelling. Probably the most visually compelling Star Trek property ever made, to be honest. Some of the time jump sequences blow anything ST has ever done visually out of the water, and that includes the Abrams films and TMP. As pure science fiction goes, this was orgasmic.

Plot wise ... I'm not super impressed, but not super disappointed either. It just kind of exists.

As a jumping off point for the "real" Discovery show to begin (and for the inevitable Pike spinoff), it works on a few levels. But (ironically) because of that role, the episode itself lacks depth and substance.

Overall? Probably a 7.

You think there's going to be a Pike spinoff?

It would be funny if they ended in old Picard's time, with Burnham meeting Picard in the flesh.
Its a bit suspicious that they stay with the Enterprise instead of giving us a glimpse of where the Discovery and Burnham end up.

They may not end up 950 years ahead at all or find out quickly that they brought a version of Control with them which will enable it to send the probe back in time thus avoiding a reset.

Oh dang a solid 8.5 that was an intense ride.

There was a lot to take in but immediate stand outs of the episode for me:

- The Battle, seeing Discovery and Enterprise use PHASER BEAMS (!!!!!) to unleash on Lelands ships
- All of the characters has their moment to shine and be Heroes.
- The Klingons showing up and seeing the D7's in action. I wonder if the Kelpiens will become a part of the Klingon empire at some point? Maybe as a protectorate?
- This episode probably had the best VFX of any Trek episode. from the battle to Burnhams time jumps, everything was jaw dropping.
- Georgiou and Nhan vs Leland. The corridor fight was brilliant, and I love seeing those type of homages in Trek.
- CAPTAIN SARU
- Culber and Stamets. As a young confused gay kid watching star trek in the late 90's the thing that disappointed me most about the franchise was the lack of gay representation. I'm glad got to see that change as an adult. I'm so glad they got Wilson Cruz back, his acting this season has been pure gold
- Spock clean shaven and in his uniform. Hello Sailor!
- Those little DOT7 fellas, rolling out to fix all the bumps and bruises, totally cool under pressure.

I think that is everything, i need to process the episode and then watch it again.

I didn't think I could get anymore excited for Star Trek. But with Discovery free to do what it likes now and the possibility (pretty convinced it's 100% guaranteed) of a Pike series. The future is looking bright!

I really enjoyed that, it tied up all the loose ends and gave us some great scenes of the Enterprise kicking ass! Loved the blue phaser beams.

Cornwell's sacrifice seemed a little perfunctory - that blast door with a window in it that can only be closed from the inside but is impervious to photon detonation that blows off half the saucer?????

That aside, good episode. I enjoyed the Klingons coming to the rescue, very Sacrifice of Angels. Everyone got to play their part. LOVED the time travel visuals, especially the TMP wormhole effect on Discovery.

The very end left me a bit conflicted. It was clearly setting up a Pike spin-off (fingers crossed) but rectonning Discovery out of existence seems a bit of a cop-out. Ok, it ties up with canon because the spore drive etc are gone, but feels like a bit of a disservice to the characters.

Also a bit odd we never got a reaction from our main characters after they went through the wormhole - not even a post-credits "where the fuck are we now" shot. I guess the writers didn't want to box themselves in or something?

Not a major deal but did feel like a slightly odd note to end on.

Overall a really good season and I'm looking forward to seeing what comes next.
