It was a fun episode and yes there was tons of pew, pew action. I liked the big space battle and it was very well done, the episode looked felt like movie action and I enjoyed every single minute of it. 30 Section 31 ships hey I kind of knew it wasn't going to be that easy and sure enough all those drones popping out of those ships. It was good. I just loved it all. So they were building the timesuit right in the middle of the big battle which I also thought was kind of awesome and added to the tensions. Michael's visions of the battle and what's happening seemed to come true, but like Spock says it wasn't a fixed future she was seeing but one possible future.
But we did get the torpedo which was lodged in the hull of Enterprise just like her vision and yeah it detonated killing the lovely Admiral Cornwell. I was surprised that blast door held like that and there wasn't more immediate damage to the ship but yeah that's Star Trek for you and they pulled some wonderful plot armour there for Pike to return to the bridge. I was almost certain the blast wouldn't damage the saucer as the torpedo looked kind of damaged by the time they had got to it but yeah it took out a chunk of the saucer, but hey that blast door saved Pike and he was able to return to the bridge. Yay blast door you should become a regular crew member. Just on that why couldn't they have rigged something up to pull the door lever from the other side or why the door didn't have some kind of delay action giving you time to get to the other side before it closed. Little nitpicks but it didn't spoil my enjoyment of the episode.
I did like how in the moment when things looked most grim suddenly there's a huge Ba'ul ship. Seems the Kelpians did figure out how to drive them and yes there were no more Ba'ul by the look of it because that was their big ship. Yay for the Kelpians I'm glad they are now a space faring people. Also nice to see L'Rell and the Klingon fleet come to lend a hand for the short time we saw them. I figured that was what Tyler was up to when he said he had to leave last episode. He was trying to get a hand from the Klingons. L'Rell is awesome. "Today is a good day to die" and that laugh. She's so cool. So yeah overall I loved that they had some backup friends helping along. Po was cool too and even she helped with the fight. So her planet doesn't have a battle tentacle, so disappointing. I wanted to see that thing uncurl from the planet and smack ships. It would have been silly but most enjoyable.
Michael couldn't leave for the future she had to first send the other red signals before the time circuits would clear for the future. That's neat because I was thinking in linear terms and that maybe her computers were borked or something had gone wrong preventing her from leaving for the future, but no seems she had to send the other signals in order for her to then move forward in time. Again I didn't mind this. I really couldn't find anything to really scream about. I liked this episode a lot, my only main complaint is that the episode was broken in two. It would have felt much better had they screened all this as a single episode. I think I'd have then given it a 9.
Howcome we don't see who was talking to all the crewmembers? We only see his mouth and chin? Who was that guy?
Anyway I'm hyped for season 3.
