New Eden got an average of 8.3 here over 262 votes, Red Angel 7.5 over 226 votes

Back in the 90s there used to be a website dedicated to rating episodes of sci-fi and fantasy shows. I can't remember it's name or if it even still exists but it was interesting.

I know what you're talking about. Joe Reiss' website Spoiler-Free Opinion Summary, abbreviated SOS.

Just took a look. It doesn't look familiar but it's been all but taken down.

The site I recall listed all the series of the day with each season and each episode. Next to each episode was a drop down box where you could rate it from 1 - 10. It would tell how many voted and the usual breakdowns. Maybe "world" or "geo" or "Global" was in the site title. Maybe Global TV Opinion Survey? Something like that.

I don't remember, it's been so long. But "geo" makes me think of Geocities, which it could've been.

All this '90s talk makes me want to break out a plaid shirt.

And Point of Light did worse than both, with a 7.0 over 236. Average scores on this forum are rarely below 7 so that's pretty poor, comparatively. I'm not surprised New Eden did well, it scored highly from a lot of people waiting for Discovery to do a traditional "strange new world with a mystery" episode.

Last week's scores seemed to be split by whether you could enjoy the episode despite all the logic flaws (some of which are not simply a matter of "wait for the explanation"). Many scored it quite highly for reasons I agreed with, but for me didn't overcome the flaws.

The main thing I'm hoping for this week is that the twist at the end of last week takes us somewhere quite interesting/profound, and isn't just a shocking twist for the sake of it. Based on this season's overall quality so far, I'm hopeful.

I'll tell you if I can log onto that site once I access my AOL browser through my dial-up modem.

The good old days!

Edit: Got me thinking back to when I first got AOL and how excited I was to connect with other Star Trek fans. Only to be stunned and traumatized by how feisty/combative online message boards could be (don't even get me started when I traveled to the B5 area thinking all fandom was a harmonious collective). Gosh, I was such the newb!

Instead of looking at other sites for episode ratings, I wish someone would tabulate how they have been rated here on trekbbs. We do have a poll for each episode.

I've actually been doing this. I was waiting until after the season finale before saying anything. I'm heading out the door soon, but I might as well do a cut-and-paste now, while I'm still here....

Umm, the episode is already up. Just came up. Two hours early? Damn. On Amazon. Doesn't appear on CBS All Access by itself, but does appear on the Amazon version. Hmm.

Snap. Our household has Amazon but it’s in someone else’s name here and not mine, whereas I’m the one supplying All Access, and I can’t log into All Access on Amazon with my credentials. She would have to register for it herself.

In other words, time to evacuate the internet for two hours.

I wonder if the title "perpetual infinity" will have something to do with a time loop or self-fulfilling prophecy?
