Remember back in the days of the old "Picard and Data" show when there was this two-parter about this mysterios group of Borgs that turned out to be controlled by Data's brother just to get Data to join him on the dark side?
Where were the "Why is everything connected to Picard and Data in the Picard and Data show?" comments then?

Or on the Kirk and Spock show, Kirk's old girlfriends seemed to pop up in the oddest places.

Because...well, I don't know really, but I'm sure there is a good reason.

Where would they have been posted?

I know Saru didn't have a lot of screen time this (notably short) episode, but it seemed strange that there was no further exploration of the radical change he underwent last week. He just seemed like his old self. You'd think they could have tacked on a few more minutes to follow up on that, even if only with a brief conversation early in the episode.

That last week's events barely got lip service felt much like old Trek.
I mentioned in the other thread that it seemed like his anger/defiance was related to the lie the Great Balance was having on his people, and with that resolved he'd likely mellow out somewhat. I would however have expected more concern about the time tsunami so close to his planet, but i suppose it was the usual "farther away than it looks to have a nice visual" trope...

And I was watching Star Trek before Al Gore invented the internet. I do remember some Star Trek magazine from back in the 80s I believe, I remember thinking the people who read it must be nuts. Little did I know......

Hell, I love how all the TNG fans are "I can't wait to see Riker/Data/Crusher(Dr. and or son)/Worf...etc. appear on the Picard show!!!!"

And if you bring that up they're all like: "But these characters worked with Picard for years and they were a BIG part of the 24th century..."

Funny thing is: they seem to gloss over that ST: D is taking place in the HEYDAY of Pike, Spock, etc. and Pike was a well decorated and respected Captain IN this era - so sorry, it's not a stretch for Starfleet to give him command of it's most advanced Starship to investigate a threat to the Federation while his main ship (the Enterprise) is being repaired/refitted in Drydock. Also, guess WHO was serving under Pike directly in this era...Spock!

Yet, yeah, they're all: "It's so unoriginal to include big name characters of the 23rd century in ST: D..."

As for the whole: "A Fed/Klingon W#ar was never mentioned directly in TOS..."

From TOS S1 - "Court Martial" (9 to 10 years in the 'future' of ST: D):

COMPUTER: James T. Kirk, serial number SC937-0176CEC. Service rank, Captain. Position, Starship command. Current assignment, USS Enterprise. Commendations, Palm Leaf Of Axanar Peace Mission, Grankite Order of Tactics, Class of Excellence, Prantares Ribbon of Commendation, Classes first and second...

SHAW: May it please the court.

STONE: Court recognises counsel for the prosecution.

SHAW: The prosecution concedes the inestimable record of Captain Kirk.

STONE: Mister Cogley?

COGLEY: I wouldn't want to slow the wheels of progress. But then on the other hand, I wouldn't want those wheels to run over my client in their unbridled haste.

STONE: Continue.

COMPUTER: Awards of valour, Medal of Honour, Silver Palm with Cluster, Starfleet citation for Conspicuous Gallantry, Karagite Order of Heroism...

COGLEY: Stop. I think that's enough. I wouldn't want to slow things up too much.

And remember the above is still not the complete list. What? Did Kirk receive the above by just walking around with a stack of books at Star Fleet Academy? I don't think so. Sounds like he saw combat somewhere...wonder when that was? ;)

In the 24th century, they give honors for boring your enemies into submission and having the best condescending speech. Also: bonus points for reconfiguring deflector arrays to emit particles.

Anyhoo....

On another subject, what was done with the probe reminded me of this guy:

The upgraded probe reminded me of the sentinels from the Matrix.

I do think that people were expecting/wanting a continuation of TNG/VOY style Trek but instead got a serialized TOS which is throwing some fans for a loop. I for one am loving how much it's giving me TOS space adventure vibes while being more modernized in its narrative format and production values.

No one ever said fan expectations were consistent.
