They chose the song for a reason. Something that would resonate with the audience and the character of Tilly. Without that reference the scene would lose most of it's meaning. Tilly saying "Moon Over Rigel VII" by S'Narf Rezbo just wouldn't work the same way.Its silly (but you keep responding anyway) to expect a show set in the future to vary its musical references rather than only use 20th/21st century music of a limited genre as a reference point? We can only show diversity with people but nothing else? Ok then carry on.
(Next time on Star Trek Saru sings his favourite song 'Fly me to the moon', it has a space reference after all)
A little. I love Harry Dean Stanton, though, so for me that's a very good thing. Also, is it just me or does Reno make anybody else think she's a female Harry Dean Stanton?
Fond Memories elicited:
- Tin Man
- V'ger
- Galaxy's Child
- Disaster
- Imaginary Friend (Maybe this wasn't exactly a fond memory)
- TWOK (albeit a much more sinister version of the radiation scene, but also the emotional gut-punch of Kirk/Spock/Michael/Saru)
- TVH (Specifically the transmission and 'DRILLING HOLES IN HIS HEAD WON'T SOLVE ANYTHING!' except it did!)
That's a hell of a leap. One person likes a song from the 20th Century and suddenly it's a mandatory entrance requirement??? You're trying way to hard.Perhaps on Earth Starfleet only takes students who can sing a song composed between 1900 and 2019.its a mandatory entrance requirement.
Ever heard of sarcasm? That's a hell of a leap. One person likes a song from the 20th Century and suddenly it's a mandatory entrance requirement??? You're trying way to hard.
Sarcasm? What's that?Ever heard of sarcasm?
Not fascinated. He accidentally turned it on and could not turn it off.Even centuries from now, Zora the computer's favorite film is 1957's Funny Face, and Craft seems to be fascinated by Betty Boop.
so, not at all?In the future Bowie will be as weird as Mozart is today
Exactly. It's what the song choice means to the viewer that is important, not presenting some super accurate view of the future. It's the same as when people who complain about the UT or the fact that most aliens are people with "bumpy foreheads"...those aren't mistakes, they're done on purpose for the purposes of presenting the show in a satisfying way. They chose the song for a reason. Yeah, I have. The sarcasm is where you're trying too hardEver heard of sarcasm?
Of course because it's"your" list. Why would a song from someone's else's list be your favorite???There were/are many wunderkinds in modern popular music, but I guess only the ones you like make it on your list.

I just rewatched Alien the other night, and I can definitely see the resemblance in appearance and attitude.A little. I love Harry Dean Stanton, though, so for me that's a very good thing.![]()
I hope she sticks around. She brings a nice harder edged feel to the show, without going overboard into dark and brooding.I just rewatched Alien the other night, and I can definitely see the resemblance in appearance and attitude.
Next it'll be Stamets singing tunes from "RENT" in the shower.Regarding "Space Oddity", they sing that one in that Carpool Karaoke video too. I wonder if they start doing more singing on the show like they did with Doctor and Seven on Voyager.
It's okay.I didn't even recognize the song as Bowie till I read it on this forum.![]()
