Either you accept interpretation an intrinsic element of art or you don't. Any preestablished foundation of the medium - especially when it's a person - is irrelevant because it's not something one can actually quantify. It's the same reason Geddy Lee can play with Yes and not have to sound like Chris Squire.

Nimoy's Spock is the most iconic and recognizable Star Trek character in pop culture. Pike is a minor footnote.

One is obviously much, much larger shoes to fill than the other. The later is largely still undefined with only about 2-3 hours of appearances.
