What a wild and wacky Vulcan family. Sarek, Amanda, Spock, Michael, and Sybock with the occasional visit by Grandma T'Pol. A new 2 camera sitcom coming to CBS All Access, this fall!

it's taught, it was people who can speak it, arguable more than many endangered languages. It has a vocabulary, grammer, syntax. it's a language.

    Same thing with Elvish.

Versus one of my friends trying to study an old Native American language that is part of his ancestry that few people can read, much less speak.

As of the 2150s, there are no fewer than eighty, per "Broken Bow" (ENT) and "The Augments" (ENT).

That can probably readily account for variations in actor pronunciation over the years.;)

I do like how in the opening two-parter there were distinctly different Klingon accents from one house to another, at least in some instances. Each reminded me of different previous Klingon performances, although I can't pin down which, specifically.

This isn, indeed, the tlhIngan Hol language devised by Marc Okrand. The dialogue is written by Robyn Stewart and Alan Anderson, who are both highly respected within the Klingon-speaking community. Alan was one of the first people to be inducted into the Order of the Friends of Maltz by the Klingon Language Institute, and Robyn is the only person to have been inducted twice.

There have also been two dialect coaches working with the actors.

Sarek and Spock were estranged in the PU because of Spock's decision to join Starfleet.

    So...

Sarek and Spock could be estranged in the MU because the Terran Emipre may have offered some aliens (who were willing and had exceptional abilities) offered Spock a chance to serve in the Terran Empire Starfleet and Spock accepted.

I don't mind that the actors speak Klingon as much as that they all sound so marblemouthed because of the overengineered dentures and facial makeup that to date has allowed only Mary Chieffo to emote successfully. That's both a testament to her acting skills and the bulky, ineffective nature of this terrible makeup design. Of all the aspects of DSC I find disappointing the Klingons and how they've been handled are at the top of the list.

Love the goatee in this episode.
Loved the surprise at the ending. One of my favorite characters. I know others said they knew who it would be. Not me. Totally surprised.
Was wishing it was the end of Ash but I was afraid it wasn't.
