If Cromwell really thought he was unfit for command, why didn't she immediately remove him and order Saru to take Discovery to a Starbase for reassignment? How much more trouble can Lorca create while still in command with Cromwell gone for weeks or months?
She was helping him save face, as friends do. Maybe she thought this would just be a quick weekend meeting to touch base and establish a dialog with the two Klingon houses, and then she would be right back. And Lorca could use that time to "think of an elegant exit," to use a phrase from Mad Men.

It's also probably just better for moral in general this way. He isn't being removed for doing something horrible, he is being removed upon assessment that he isn't up to the task,

well, he isn't being removed all any more. But I could see the merit in keeping that one as amicable as possible.

Cadet Not got caught on the Defiant at the outbreak of war, something similar for Tilly isn't unreasonable. Discovery is a testbed/science ship rather than a frontline battleship.

Besides the fact that they shouldn't have a holodeck (which was infuriating but I don't have the desire to rant about it right now), it just didn't really work.

It's a good thing you held back on your rant because it would've been thoroughly wasted. As has been noted multiple times in this thread, having a holographic room (as opposed to holodeck) is consistent with canon (TAS). ;)

Tilly is so green and socially awkward she can't remember not to drop the F-bomb in a professional environment, yet they're trusting her to keep Starfleet's greatest secret.

Everyone is mentioning TAS, no one remembers Enterprise had a holoroom a hundred years earlier? Or has everyone drunk away their memory of that show. ;)

Depending on the professional environment, the F bomb may not be unusual at all.

With this crew, I'm thinking swearing is a lot more commonplace than most ships. Good thing it's not Demolition Man or every replicator on the ship would burn out printing tickets.

There's nine different ways Cornwell was handling things badly regarding Lorca.

They had a holodeck in The Animated Series. :brickwall:
Besides, it wasn't a holodeck for recreational purposes nor an entire section of the ship dedicated to one huge chamber. It's a holographic simulation chamber with what may likely be limited interactivity.

The Xyrillians in ENT had vastly more impressive and interactive holographic technology more than a century before Sunday night's episode.
