They got 'shrooms on DISCO, they might have tripping covered.
CBS isn't going to spend money to make Star Trek television if DSC ends up not being well-received. It took 12 years to get new Trek on TV because Enterprise ultimately didn't do well enough to justify keeping it on the air, or to justify keeping the franchise as a whole on TV.
Far out. I've got the entertainment covered.
And if CBS doesn't want to Disney will buy the IP from them and do it themselves.

So basically the five minute intro to an episode.
We see two of them with a new project. And they are bragging about how they xan conduct more scientific experiments than other ships. This lends it to being a new ship class
I'm still split on Discovery.
I'm enjoying it as it's own show, it's got great visuals and the characters are interesting. I hope that we get a few more light hearted moments as we go forward. The relationship between Burnham and the redhead reminded me intantly of Kim and Paris.
Overall though, i'm onboard. I was predicting a disaster and it hasn't been that so i'm pleased so far.

I've been trying real hard to judge it on its own terms not what I want it to be. About the only thing that really compares is The Expense but I do wish it was more like my idea of Trek.
I suppose we could see Lorca's eyes as being a canonical rationalization.
Nah, the pet was at the end. In between we had the action adventure stuff. Monsters and pew pew. The real Trek stuff that no one admits they like
A note - the experimental drive is called the "Spore Drive". This is from a monitor before Burnham went through a cycle of destinations.

Liked it a lot. I love we have real Humans with actual different personalities in Star Trek again; and Human reactions to other people and events. -- It's been a long time.

Again, liked this episode (I actually liked the first two a bit more) - but I like the direction and execution of the story so far.

Overall I love the series setup:
- It's clear since the Federation has fought an all out war, they're unprepared and Starfleet Command is shaken to it's core.
- We may indeed be seeing 'Section 31' (the crew with the Black Starfleet Badge - OR - They're the crew working with the 'spores' and the Black Alert maneuvers
- Lorca is definitely crazy; but Starfleet is desperate so they figure we'll give this Captain a chance to develop this crazy idea; and give him a wide birth. He COULD see a breakthrough that will end the conflict.
- So he wants the Mutineer? <--- Again I'm sure Starfleet is grudgingly okay with it. her record shows she has a keen intellect, and she's just as much a loose cannon as Lorca is in their view most likely.
- Again, I love there are real Humans (and an alien) with honest reaction to Burnham. They didn't go whole hog with the: "She did good, so she's now in good with the rest of the ship" trope. She has some people willing to give her a chance, but it's not the "you saved the team - slate wiped clean..." stuff they've done in the Berman era. TOS era Trek is alive and well.

Hell, Garth of Izar was a bold and unconventional officer who bent the rules in order to help save the Federation at Axanar, and that was before the bastard was mangled in an accident, went bat guano loopy and had to learn how to shapeshift to save his own life. Ron Tracey was clearly a less-than-optimal and stable human being if he could be pushed over the edge and into mass slaughter and other violence so easily. Starfleet - especially in the mid-to-late 23rd century - seemed to promote captains to the center seat who had questionable personality and ethical issues but who could follow the basic rules and get the job done.
