I have to say, I'm much more intrigued by this episode than the first two. While it didn't feel like a pilot like was touted, it certainly has me very intrigued with where the story is going. I still think they have some ways to go before they get the proper Trek tone down, but that last scene between Michael and Lorca I suppose injected a hint of it.
I'm also surprised with Saru here. Given that I'm reading the novel where he's portrayed as a sort of selfish brat, it could be that I'm surprised with how compassionate he is to Micheal in this episode.
