Honestly I'd be okay with that. I'm on a forum called NeoGAF which specializes in videogames, it's so tightly regulated you need to use your work email to register and then everyone is vetted by an actual person to get in, takes months. Firstly, don't insult me because you didn't elucidate on something beyond anecdotal evidence. Secondly, it changes nothing.
They can. No one is preventing them from liking both shows. I like both shows.
There definitely was a close relationship between Michael and Saru, of course when she became a traitor it destroyed that trust.
I'm not sure it was you, but the poll was pretty clearly described as one regarding viewership.

So? The poll showed more people enjoyed The Orville over Discovery. That doesn't make them haters, and doesn't make you right.
I haven't been posting here much because I didn't really feel like micro analyzing the show or reading through arguments about it. Plus, the first two episodes, while fine, (not as bad as I feared, not as good as I hoped) didn't really spur any desire to discuss it.
This episode was much better. I understand why the first two hours were described as a prologue to the series proper. Honestly, I think the pilots content would have been better explored in flashbacks with the series opening with the transfer shuttle scene. Would have made a much stronger initial impression IMO.
One thing I'm disappointed with in this episode, and this is not the fault of the episode itself, is that it seems to confirm that the leaked plot outline that was wildly rejected as fake by CBS seems to have been accurate after all, especially with Frakes slip up last week.

After Burnham accidentally starts a war with the Klingons who are now United as one empire, she ends up onboard the section 31 vessel Discovery. Discovery's main objective is to break the Time Warp Barrier, as mentioned as having recently taken place in TOS. Unfortunately, something goes wrong with the experiment hurtling the Discovery into alternate universes and they now must find a way home without destroying the space time continuum. This matches up with this episodes spore experiments, the mystery black badges (31 badges?) and Frakes statement that we will be visiting the mirror universe. The point of this plot also meant that they didn't have to obey prime or Kelvin timeline canon but still could say they are meeting prime canon because, since discovery takes place in multiple dimensions, nothing they do can affect the prime timeline. It's also supposedly why Fuller was fired - he rejected this concept, wanting to strictly set his show in the Prime Universe.[\spoiler]
This show takes itself very seriously and has no sense of levity at all. Part of what makes Star Trek stand out is the optimistic vision of the future. Removing that makes it feel like generic SciFi.
People in the penal system wouldn't be called "garbage" in an enlightened future society. That was totally unnecessary as was most of the animosity between characters. You can have conflict between characters in Star Trek, but just making everyone an a-hole for the sake of it is stupid and pointless.
But it had a Tribble in it so I guess that's supposed to remind me that this is Star Trek.

These three episodes are one continuous story, and to save time should be cut together as one episode at some point.
I'm curious to see if episode four is still-still the pilot, or if there is some clear divisional break.

It's tough trying to talk to people when they won't read and can't comprehend very simple logic. I feel like an adult in a room full of babies trying to teach them quantum physics.
I suggest caring slightly less about what people say in anonymous online polls. Don't give yourself a heart attack.
I didn't provide a link. If someone had asked for it, i'd provide it. It's just a discussion, i'm not trying to prove anything scientifically, because ultimately this is about a TV show, i'm not publishing an academic paper.
