Definitely. I'm kinda flabbergasted they only aired TVH. As soon as the episode ended, I turned to my roommates and I said, "can you imagine that being it for tonight?" We all agreed it'd feel lacking.
The death penalty. An extreme punishment to keep people away from Talos IV, yet, as the events of "The Menagerie" demonstrated, the Talosians power of telepathy could extend light years rendering the point of the general order moot. And, tonight we learned the telepathic Vulcans could communicate with each other or those they touched over at least a thousand light year range. So, what was the real point for General Order 7?
And seems to be the overwhelming consensus of the board.
It'll be hard to say for awhile, but I'm pretty sure the common takeaway moving forward will be CBS screwed the pooch in an epic way tonight.
ETA: And let me add to that by saying, even if CBS wanted to go the drug dealer route, they could have then just put ep3 on AA. Because this itself ended in a hanger--albeit much more conclusively.
And, as previously stated, I'm pretty sure all three episodes where part of the press pack.

The last 3 minutes 25 seconds of episode 2 are just season 1 promos, and the 1:35 from the intro has never counted to total episode length.
But this is a streaming service. People are paying for content and I’m paying for no commercials. The model has changed since Enterprise.
I know. Just comparing the average running time for the two series.
And yes, paying for less than 40 minutes when you often got better product for free just a decade and a half ago is a bad selling point. I hope the running times get longer and quickly.

What makes you think they care? It's not like they have time slots to fill.
Well they are the ones paying the bill. And those are some pretty expensive 40 minutes.
Spock is known for evading the truth by stating facts. The fact is that there are no record of any mutinies. Doesn't mean they didn't happen, just that Starfleet has decide to not keep them on record.
6+ million dollars for a 36 minute episode is not a good price no matter how you look at it.
Especially when you were expecting to get at least 50 minute episodes.
Spock took 22 years to mention Sybok, and that was only because his half-brother kidnapped diplomats in the Neutral Zone and triggered a hostage crisis. Kirk didn't even know that Sarek was Spock's father until he came aboard the Enterprise for the Babel Conference.

I used to record Enterprise on videotape.
No ads, no opening or closing credits = 39 minutes.
This was important, so that I could fit four episodes of enterprise and a 30 minute sitcom (minus ads, minus credits) on a 3 hour tape, which i could not do with DS9 or tng, without cutting off the tail end of the sitcom.
Episode 1 of Discovery was 42 minutes 51 seconds (including cbs all access logo, opening credits and ending credits.)
Episode 2 of Discovery was 40 minutes 33 seconds (including cbs all access logo, opening credits, season one preview trailer and ending credits.) and it's possible that in future times that they may add a "previously on Discovery" catch up reminder for the terrestrial broadcast.

I'm sure it's not a surprise. Looking at the run times for Luke Cage I see 45-65 minutes listed. Other streaming shows have varying run times per episodes.
Who's "you"? Netflix? Is tonight the first time they've seen it?
Even MACO body armor could be penetrated by Xindi-Reptillian weaponry and those guys were trained soldiers and commandos. Not saying that the Starfleet design is a great one but body armor for human officers and soldiers in the Trek franchise has its downsides and weaknesses.
The heavier your armour, the slower and less maneuverable you are, the more likely it is that you will get shot.
