I don´t think it was ever on the agenda of Axanar being presented to CBS, like other productions claim to be doing. Quite the contrary - I remember reading that Alec Peters was quite opposite to getting fans hopes up by doing that, as it would have no chance whatsoever for CBS to be considered.

If CBS wants to do a new series, they for sure have enough resources on their own to do so without having to hassle with any fan project.

We can just hope they watch these projects with a friendly eye, treating them as a positive sign of the fandom.

CBS' business model is focused on the domestic market, where NuTrek's box office record is 1 for 2 so far. I would understand if they're in wait-and-see mode about where it's headed.

If I'm CBS, I'm rooting for the continued success of the Abrams films because they generate licensing revenue and offer free advertising for the franchise. It literally is a win-win for CBS. Reward with little risk.

I have doubts about whether a non-compete clause actually exists. Why would CBS balk at giving up the small potatoes of TOS merchandise yet give away control of the single thing that can make them a shit ton of money if done right (a TV series)? It makes no sense.

That could have more to do with cutting the pie in as few pieces as possible? If they are spinning off of the Bad Robot movies then they have to cut those creators in (I believe). If they do their own version of Kirk and Spock, then they are just paying the Roddenberry estate.

Maybe Maurice or Dennis could chime in on the implications of spinoffs and creator rights?

But for the last decade, CBS hasn't shown any inclination to bring Trek in any form to TV. So I'm not sure that it is exactly damning of the Abramsverse.

I´m sorry, but neither Axanar nor Renegades is "ready to go". Axanar is just starting to build their sets. Renegades - well, we haven´t seen anything in quite some time, but what I saw looked nice, but certainly not usable as a series. Captain Worf? Are you kidding me? There is no such thing in development - same goes for the Titan scam.

The only thing CBS might take from Renegades/Axanar or any other project is maybe a few characters and the basic idea. And that is not enough for the hassle they would have with the legal situation. Ain´t gonna happen...

But I would bet CBS is already cooking something up for a new series.

Source? Seriously. I know this is the internet, but it still isn't kosher to make shit up. Especially, considering that from a your point-of-view no one is happy with the Abrams movies. Not CBS, not Paramount, not the fans. Yet they keep selling tickets. Yet they keep making movies. Yet they aren't making TV shows nor has CBS shown any inkling to license Trek to another studio, which would be their right as the intellectual property rights holder.

I think it's actually time to show some evidence or shut the fuck up about the Abrams films.

I know for a fact that CBS wants Bob Orci and J.J. Abrams to continue making these nuTrek films. Paramount agreed, and they said that they have no doubt that the next film will be better than all of the prime universe movies combined.

It's funny, for a franchise as big as Star Trek, where every move is followed, I can't find anything beyond fan conjecture about a "non-compete" clause between CBS and Paramount that prevents CBS from making a series.

It's easier for CBS to just make something new, from both a business and a legal standpoint, than to take over some fanfilm. It's just too much of a rat's nest in terms of rights and contracts from the WGAw to CBS.
