Spock's Blood after the childhood fight scene

Corroded pennies turn green. Gene Roddenberry remembered this from his childhood spent digging them out of fishponds and incorporated into his Spock biology. Thus green blood means it is copper based.

Then he got it wrong. See my horseshoe crab posting above.

Well, Gene was never one for scientific or historical accuracy, or even plausibility. (see the old episodes with the gangster planet and Nazi planet for some nice examples) Apparently, he just wanted to tell a story... ironically, his show spawned one of the most tech-minutiae-obsessed fanbases around. Go figure. :vulcan:

A-freakin'-men.

so why are their lips red?

"Multi-Quote function."

Use it.

Why are their rips red? As said above, dogs have red blood -like us- ans their lips are very dark, almost black. Maybe there's just some pigmentation effect going on giving them pink lips.

Or this is just something with no 'in-universe' explanation and has to suffice with the meta-explanation of limitations in makeup or just simply it never occured to people to paint their lips a tint of green to go along with Vulcans having green blood. I mean, their skin logically should have a much more green tinge to it, too. Hell, they should probably almost look like pale Orions.

Their lips are red because they are. Nevertheless, they have green blood because of the oxidized copper content in it.

basically, you're saying, it's all BS.

got it.

Welcome to the Science of Star Trek. :bolian:

this OP seems to start threads that are needlessly provocative and then abandon them.

How is it provocative. I just asked a question. People like you pile on with other tangents.

Here's an idea ... if you don't like the topic, move on. Why waste your time with such a lame, and needlessly provocative, response?

calm down. he'll be happy you came back.

Why should he care? His only post was to attack me

You know, it really doesn't make sense that a species with copper-based blood would have any chance of interbreeding with a human.

They don't have a chance of interbreeding with a human -- naturally. It takes a lot of help from geneticists.

If we're done with the red lips, let's move on to the red mucous membrane in the eye sockets.

The copper and iron fights, Amok Time style, and eventualy one of them emerges victorious.

The bit about the geneticists is in the novelization, btw.

Novel information isn't "canon."

On-screen evidence I can't recall much that says one way or the other of hybrid babies needing help to develop just that it's pretty much just a random chance of them survivng.

It's not canon; it's not "the" explanation, but "an" explanation.

I don't know. I have a feeling these writers (especially Orci) pay waaaaay more attention to the novels than ever before. a lot of the stuff in the movie came directly out of prior novels.

Well, certainly this one carries some weight. It's being discussed here largely without canon caveat.

I haven't bought that one. does he really do all the voices? I just realized something from listening to some of his interviews. he's a fantastic mimic!

Actually, I was going to mention that. Zach does a great job on the other accents and gender; his Russian is very good, and he uses a nice sotto voce for the ladies.

for not coming back.

you're back.

all's good!

It's one thing if he were actively participating in the conversation. But he wasn't.

As to why I may not have come back ... I asked a question about a scene. It was answered in 1 or 2 posts. Was the blood green in that scene? Yes. Moving on ...

The fact that the conversation morphed into the science behind green blood lies entirely at the feet of the online community here. Which is one of the beautiful things about message boards, I guess.
