Spin-Off starts shooting in Septrmber!

The thing that always point out to people complaining about actors being reused is that actors are people who need work to make a living. How is it fair they're denied a role on a particular show just because they were on the show before?

RTD has already said - in print and on the record - that there is no active spin-off development currently happening, which ought to be enough to squash The Mirror's claim outright.

Someone want to check on DigificWriter?

Watching people complain about reusing actors makes me wonder if (a) they've ever seen the Original Series* and (b) if they understand just how many years it's been since the pair briefly appeared.
Hey, at least Doctor Who doesn't shoot in Vancouver (except for that one time). There are a surprising number of actors who've done the hat-tricks of Battlestar Galactica/Caprica/Blood and Chrome, and Stargates SG-1/Atlantis/Universe in different roles each time. And they didn't always progress logically from "less memorable role" to "equally or more memorable role" so you wouldn't necessarily recognize them the first time through.

Recognizing Canadian actors is half the fun of watching shows filmed in Vancouver from the 90s and 2000s. I remember rewatching The X-Files a few years ago making offhand comments about what was going on in a particular scene and then taking note "and there's Roger Cross."

Aw, I'm sorry we aren't getting Martha Jones but I'm thrilled we're getting Gugu Mbatha-Raw and Russell Tovey, even if they aren't playing their original  Who characters. More of Gugu is always a plus and I'm fine with her not playing Tish (never really liked the character anyways).

I'm still hoping we'll get more of the existing UNIT characters beyond Kate and Colonel Ibrahim. I especially hope we'll see Shirley and Osgood.

"Oh there's Gary Chalke as local policeman of a small town with too many pine trees and constant rain"

Basically every early season X-files episode lol

*Did people in the 1960's complain when Peter Purves played two different characters in THE SAME STORY!!

While I'm totally fine with reusing actors, I do want to point out that I watched The Chase recently and literally didn't know he played the two roles until watching the special features. They did a pretty good job of hiding that Steven was also "Morton Dill", it helped that Steven didn't have a cowboy hat or a bad American accent

Honestly we've had so many reused actors in Doctor Who it would be weird to complain about them, unless they were being purposefully obnoxious about it or something. I mean two Doctors appeared on the show in other roles before being cast as The Doctor (Colin Baker and Peter Capaldi), and of course Karen Gillen also showed up before being Amy. We also had Jacqueline Hill come back to the show as another characters years after being Barbara, and both William Hartnell and Patrick Troughton played characters besides The Doctor on the show while also being the current The Doctor.

So.... Gugu Mbatha-Raw might actually be playing a Sea Devil or possibly a Silurian. Bad Wolf are looking for a 5 foot 4 inch tall biracial stand-in who is willing to wear prosthetics and she is 5 foot 4 and biracial.

Why would the stand-in need to be biracial when they would be under prosthetics? Assuming she's actually playing a Sea Devil or Silurian.

Maybe there's a part in the series where her character goes undercover and is disguised as a Sea Devil or Silurian? That would explain why they care about the stand-being biracial and willing to wear prosthetics.

Just idle speculation.

Yeah, maybe. But it's still a weird leap in logic on Rich's part.

If the internet had existed in 1965 there would have been grumbles.

Couldn’t pick a winner in a one-horse race
Probably would also deny that the one-horse was even racing!
"The racing arena's Twitter account SPECIFICALLY STATES that Clyde's Dale will NOT be in the race. The folly is yours for placing a bet on him."

(The Twitter account in fact does not mention any names, just that it's a horse race.)

According to the new DWM they've done some shooting in New York for this, though it doesn't seem to be with the cast. Probably just establishing shots and the like.

Or maybe they're reimagining the Myrka as a giant Kaiju rampaging through Midtown. 😉

Cast read-through today & shooting starts on Monday; so it's a shame we can't change the thread titles as it's out of date now.

It seems impossible to post photo's here directly anymore, so you'll have to go to Russell's Instagram to see a photo and try and guess who the (unannounced) blurry actors are. I'm 99% sure Ruth Madeley's one of them.

I believe there are people empowered to do so. Contact the Mods.
