Source Code has plenty plot holes and isn't as smart or original as it makes itself out to be, however it's a very entertaining and enjoyable ride with strong performances and a good emotional epicenter. I think I might prefer Moon, though.

The ending is pretty happy, but are we supposed to be happy that Colter Stevens murdered Sean Fentress? It seems as though the man that was Sean Fentress no longer exists and Christina Warren who obviously had a pre-existing affection for Sean Fentress (she was hoping he'd ask for coffee for months) is now spending her time with someone that she doesn't realize is a stranger!

Sean was always going to die, though. The fact remains that had Colter not intervened, Sean would still be dead in that reality, as the bomb would have exploded. It seems there's absolutely no scenario that ends with Sean alive. Sad? Yes, but it can't be helped. Also Christina will probably never know that it isn't the real Sean, as any personality changes will be attributed to whatever epiphany Sean/Colter claims he had. She also mentions that she likes the new him, so she won't give it too much scrutiny.

"Hi, I'm Sean Fentress, and I don't know my Social Security number, how to get to my house, or what my parents look like." Yeah, the fucked-upedness of the ending is that they don't even acknowledge it really. Personally, I'd have preferred they ended on that excellent "frozen in time" shot. I don't know why Jones didn't.

Anyway, I still really enjoyed it. Did you know that the working title of the film was "Donnie Darko Goes to War"?

I was kinda hoping it would end on the frozen shot as well. I thought it would have been a melancholy but appropriate ending. I wasn't too fond of the "happy ending", but it was still interesting, even if the complications that ensue are a little mind-boggling.

Colter didn't murder Sean, as was pointed above he was already killed as well as Christina in the original train attack. Colter created an alternate timeline where he assumed Sean's identity. He was basically Sean and yes we were supposed to be happy for them. As for the frozen moment, I could have gone either way with it. Reminded me of Star Trek Insurrection :)

It wasn't murder, fair enough. But they just glossed over it: that was the bothersome part.

I hate talking in spoiler tags!

^ I don't know why you guys are doing it. It's a grading/discussion thread. Spoilers are to be expected.

Anyway, I loved the movie, and would give it an "A." I'll post more on it when I get a chance.

Maybe it's not murder but it still feels damn creepy. I feel bad for Christina. She clearly had a pre-existing affection for Sean.

I liked it. I'm conflicted on the ending (I liked the frozen shot, but the extra beat at the very end with the Captain is also a very nice ending--I'd probably compromise by editing some, but not all, of the "happy" ending).

Not quite as good as Moon, but I was pleasantly surprised, as the trailers didn't excite me beyond the name "Duncan Jones" being attached to the project.

A-

Saw it tonight, not as good as Moon, but still pretty damn good.

Loved the voice cameo, too.

:techman:

What if her pre-existin' affection was based on his looks?

Think about it.

;)

Like another poster wrote before me, I came out of the theater feeling very happy for the couple. Not many films can make me do that, so I give this movie an A.

I also thought the film would end with the happy snapshot, very melancholy, but just as fitting as the happy ending we got.

Far as she knows she still does have an affection and attraction towards Sean. Colter assuming his identity doesn't really change that. Sean and Christina one can assume only established some kind of friendship on the train, and I would further propose that it was relatively recent. At least recent enough for Christina that a sudden personality change is not more widely suspicious.

All right, murder's off the table, but here's a fun question:

Assuming, as is likely given our happy ending, that Christina will have sex with Sean's body, is Colter Steves a rapist by fraud?

^

No. From the happy endin' onward, its Christina & Colter. If she has sex with him, then its just like any other healthy relationship.

I can't help but feel that the film was meant to end on the freeze frame, but everything after was put in to make room for the studio to greenlight a sequel.
