Just another simple poll from me. No need to give any reasons for your choice but will be highly welcome and appreciated if you did. You are also welcome to discuss what you liked or disliked but in the end, overall, did you like/enjoy the movie?

Thanks for your votes! :)

The movie introduced me to the franchise; I quite enjoyed it and was dismayed I hadn't found the original series sooner!

The only thing that really bugged me was Spock Prime telling Scotty the equation that Scotty is supposed to develop himself. (I've only seen it once, so forgive me if I'm not remembering that scene correctly, but I believe that's what happened.) I felt like it undermined Scotty's intelligence.

Minor complaint, though. I thoroughly enjoyed myself and can't wait for more.

As mentioned too many times before, I was (and sort of still am) a "Change NOTHING!!!!" person. There was no reason for them to make so many visual changes, when what they did to the uniforms shows how close they could have come with many things and still "updated" them.

I'm also, however, looking forward to the next film with anticipation. This is the shape the Trek genre has now taken, and this is all the new Trek we're gonna have. I'm on board and want to see what's next.

I am pretty convinced, by the way, that with the way the Kelvin and its tech looked, that the nuTrek universe is NOT an altered or offshoot timeline of the original, but was from the start a parallel universe. I'm not sure what that means about Spock and Nero. Were they from the original universe, or from the future of this one? I dunno.

Again, tho', this is the only game in town, so it doesn't make a lot of difference. Nero's gone, Spock Prime ain't gonna be around forever, so this new universe, whatever it is, is what we'll be getting more of, and I'll be happy.

Just please, no more quasi porn scenes with Kirk. (Or anyone else.) I know this is the 21st century, but let's just say people have always liked Trek to be something to share with the kids. Let's leave a few things offscreen, like the original series did in that regard. Trek doesn't need that to be good.

Quasi-porn? It was hardly "bow-chica-wow-wow." Maybe a little risque, but hardly anything worth being overly concerned about.

As for the movie. Loved it! Six times. Can't wait for the dvd.

If I remember correctly Scotty does the same to some poor guy in the cold war.

I liked it a lot. The script could have been tighter (it arguably came out of the oven too early because of the WGA strike), and the jokes were very broad and didn't all land.

On the whole, though, it felt fresh, which is not something I thought I'd ever say about Star Trek again. The cast were terrific and all found their own readings on the parts (which was by no means a given), the FX were spectacular and too much to take in at one viewing, the pacing and editing were deliciously brisk, and it had so much of the angry, horny, clumsy, drunken, impertinent passion of TOS that it was impossible to resist.

"You okay, Jim? How do you feel?"

"Young. I feel young."

I've asked you to do this in other threads (and fixed a number of your posts to correct the omission), but will you please use the quote button when replying to another person's post? By simply using the quotation marks the way you're doing here, you make it easy to miss the fact that you're quoting someone at all, and you force those who do catch it to scroll back up the page (or even to previous pages) in order to figure out who it is you're responding to.

As I've quoted you here, anyone can see easily who's being addressed and can go directly to that post by clicking on the pointer. Just placing quotation marks around a chunk of text leaves all of that unclear so please, as a common courtesy, use the quote tags. I will amend your post above to reflect proper quote attribution.

More on-topic: Yes, Scotty gives to an engineer (who was on record as being the inventor anyway, some years later) on 20th-century Earth the formula for making transparent aluminum in order to expedite matters toward his own ends, just as Spock gives for similar reasons to Scotty the missing piece of something he largely understood already (not undermining his intelligence, but rather showing that Scotty was sharp enough to quickly recognize the new part of the formula for what it was.) This movie gives a nod to that one.

I liked it a lot and can't imagine a better way to re-boot the franchise. But, I am so very much hoping the next movie is A LOT smarter.

TMP tried to elevate Trek to a new level. It failed in many respects but at least it tried. (I still love TMP.)

Here's hoping the next movie will try and succeed.

I loved it. Seen it twice. Want to see it a third time. Can't wait for the DVD in October the deleted scenes.

Cool, thanks for explaining that.

As I said two months ago, I'm in love with this movie. I saw it 20 times.

Tribbles, I hadn't caught that the movie introduced you to Star Trek; that is just amazing. Glad to hear it.

I loved it.

When I first started seeing previews, I thought it wasn't going to work with all these young, new actors but it turned out to be far better than I would have imagined and most of the actors were well cast.
