Overall no, not really. Although I certainly tried hard to. It's technically brilliant but I didn't feel emotionally connected to it, in the way I was to previous films and TV shows.

Oh yes, I liked it. Saw it three times and enjoyed it each time. Now I'm waiting for the DVD.
During the long wait for the film to come out, when we learned this and that about the story line, I had my doubts about it. But it turned out great.

I have seen it seven times and I still adore it.

I hated the idea of Pine as Kirk, was somewhat okay with Quinto as Spock and was thoroughly mystified by Urban as a choice for McCoy...and yet when the movie came out... it was amazing.

The last movie I kept seeing at the theatres until I got sick of it (actually I didn't) was Aliens. I can't remember feeling the urge to catch an almost midnight showing of a movie. Yes, it wasn't the Trek I have loved for years but this movie was fun and each time I sat through it, I was thoroughly entertained.

So the answer to htis question is absofragginglutely!!!

td, I like Nero; I even bought his action figure. Of course, I always liked Pike.

I not only LIKED Star Trek; I LOVED Star Trek.

Hope to see it one last time at the local IMAX before purchasing a Blu Ray player when it comes out on Blu Ray.

I like it a lot right now, but that doesn't mean much; I often go through a period of what I call irrational exuberance with regard to new movies, where whatever just came out is OMG teh best thing evar!!1!one. For about a year Generations was my favorite movie ever, I must have watched that movie a hundred times the summer it came out on video, and don't even ask me about the unfortunate Titanic period in 1998.

Ask me in a few years, that'll give a better read.

Didn't like it - I loved it!

The film that brought me into the ST franchise was ST:TMP, and this new film had the same emotional connection for me that I got from that first movie.

LOVED IT!

I have only watched it once, but that's because I live a good deal outside any major metropolitan area. When it becomes available on Blue-Ray, I will watch it 4747.47 times.

More on-topic: Yes, Scotty gives to an engineer (who was on record as being the inventor anyway, some years later) on 20th-century Earth the formula for making transparent aluminum in order to expedite matters toward his own ends, just as Spock gives for similar reasons to Scotty the missing piece of something he largely understood already (not undermining his intelligence, but rather showing that Scotty was sharp enough to quickly recognize the new part of the formula for what it was.) This movie gives a nod to that one.

I didn't realize it was an homage. Thanks for explaining (and thank you also, npsf3000)! :)

I loved it. Going into it I expected to despise it.

What I truly loved about it is that it reminded me of what I had loved about the original Star Trek and had forgotten over the years of watching the later series (even DS9). It compelled me to go back to TOS and see the episodes I hadn't watched in twenty years and fall back into love with TOS even more than I had when I was in my teens. The old show is even better than what I remembered it to be and I don't think I would have rediscovered it without ST XI.
