SNW Season 3 Officially confirmed by Paramount+

Who cares?

Edit @Serveaux Dennis, I did NOT see your post before I replied, but I'm going to leave it there regardless... Wow. that gave me chills!

Too much is made of minutiae. I don't think there are any useful conversations left to be had on the subject of Trek's adherence to continuity or the importance of it.

TOS made do with minimal, loose continuity in most things. It was successful, exciting, and pretty smart for TV in its day. Let SNW do the same. If it sticks as closely to the details of the original Star Trek as TOS episode 50 stuck to TOS episode 4 or 5, they'll be fine.

Whether or not SNW matches any Trek other than TOS...meh. If they ever move forward to a TNG era show grounded in this version of the 23rd century it will be more different still. And I expect that's way down the road if ever.

Just quarantine the "Trek eras" from one another, which they seem to be doing, de facto, and they'll be fine for the moment.

I'm hoping that the USS KELVIN shows up in the background or actually is called out in one of the season 2 episodes.

Oh dang it, posted in the wrong thread ... sorry. :alienblush:

New Post on Trek Instagram indicates it won't be simultaneously broadcast in the UK as they had previously announced.
P+ app in UK currently has a "new series coming 15th June" tag on SNW, which suggests the initial report was right, and we do get it same day.

Maybe George, Sr is the Captain of the Kelvin at this point in the Prime Universe?
This would be something fantastic and I would love to see. Prime timeline George Kirk although in the Divergent future seen in SNW episode 10 Kirk says he "*was*" first officer of the Kelvin. If the USS Kelvin is still in service as of ~2260 then it's likely he is the Captain or an Admiral by now or he may have even retired from Starfleet altogether. Prime spock mentions to Abrams Kirk in ST 2009 that in the prime timeline George is alive to see Kirk become Captain of the Enterprise which would probably be around 2265. I would love Prime George and James having a touching father to son moment in SNW! And I want to see more of the Kelvin it fits right in with the aesthetic of the SNW Connie.

I'm looking forward to the possibility that SNW might do for the character of James Kirk what it's done for Spock, as well as for Chapel and Uhura.

God knows he's overdue.

In fairness, the people who think Pine was a "better Kirk" than Wesley will never see Wesley as the good Kirk that he is. Kirk drift is alive and well, and people think he was some wild mixture of Han Solo, Luke Skywalker, and a 19th century Brothel Visitor.

Wesley brings a seriousness and an intelligence that Pine's Kirk could not (and should not have; he was right for his universe, but all wrong for this one.)

Pine's Kirk got constantly beat up. That annoyed the hell out of me. I wonder if we'll see this new Kirk fight?

So far, Paul Wesley has had one turn (totaling a little under an hour) at portraying James T.. Kirk of an alternate timeline where he wasn't given command of the USS Enterprise nor did he interact with the crew members that he did in the prime timeline.

Chris Pine has had three films and about 6 hours on screen to portray James T. Kirk of an alternate timeline/Star Trek universe. To say people who don't like his portrayal of the character so far will never change their mind is (IMO) premature.

In comparison it took many fans some time to warm to Ethan Peck's portrayal of Mr Spock, and that was because they didn't really give him much when he first appeared on Discovery as the character, but when they finally got to the episodes that allowed him to actually portray aspects of Mr Spock, many (including myself) do like his portrayal of Spock better than that of Zachary Quinto.

So at this point we have at least one, and possibly more SNW episodes in season 2 that will feature Paul Wesley as a young Lieutenant James T. Kirk in the prime Star Trek timeline. I'd wait until we see what happens in those episodes before claiming no one will buy or like Paul Wesley as a young James T. Kirk.

I suggest you go rewatch TOS S1 Shore Leave, TOS S1 This Side Of Paradise, TOS S2 Amok Time, TOS S2 The Omega Glory, and TOS S3 Day Of The Dove; and come back to this thread. :)

He got roughed up pretty good in S1's "Where No Man Has Gone Before" as well.

"By Any Other Name" he has to fight to get a reaction out of the Kelvan.
