Smallville renewed for Season 10

I haven't been a regular viewer since about the end of season five, and while I still have a whole hell of a lot of catching up to do, seeing that the show has been renewed cheers me.

I think Guinness was using a definition of "longest continuously-running". Doctor Who has been broken up by indefinite hiatuses too often.
that seems odd as looking at epguides Doctor Who was on many times each year between 1963 & 1989, which is 26 years by itself.

I am not suggesting that they count An Unearthly Child to End of Time Part 2. Dimensions in Time & TVM is not nearly enough to fill the 20 year gap.

So when Smallville has been going 25 years will it be any where near the record of longest running sci-fi show.

A couple of points:

1) Epguides.com is by no means the end-all authority on these things.

2) This is really a moot point to be arguing. One would think that fans would be happy the show is coming back; if you're not a fan, don't watch.

The thing about Lana Lang is that they lingered on her being Clark's love interest for far too long. In the comics she's always been his high school sweetheart and one of the first to learn his secret (in fact Smallville switched her and Pete around in that regard most likely for drama purposes) but the soap opera style on and off again regarding their relationship just sucked any life out of the character until eventually they had to actually make it obvious that Lana was toxic to Clark!!! What a waste of a character. I had hopes when Lana married Lex but they boggled that storyline as well.

^
Lana getting married to Lex was the worse thing to happen on the show. I think they should have had Lana learn Clark's secret first. I really don't know why they made Pete into such a weak character on the show...plus casting Sam Jones III?

^ This is what I meant about them switching the roles of characters. Lana in the comics is the first person outside of his parents to learn who is really is. I think they should have taken the scene from Superman: For All Seasons (which was an inspiration for the series) and have Clark tell Lana. They could also do what John Bryne did and have Lana be told after high school was over. Pete was just ruined and the role of best friend went to Chloe. I'm not sure the writers understood Pete Ross. Again I don't mind the casting or ethnicity of the characters coming into play but they should have used the Pete and Lana in Superman: For All Seasons (which is one of my favorite all time Superman stories).

^
Pete's ethnicity isn't the issue for me it is Sam Jones III...I don't think he carried the character well...if I were to recast him it would be with ANTWON TANNER(Currently On One Tree Hill) as Pete.

Lana should have found out after what happened in the tornado...that seemed a perfect time to do it.

Antwon Tanner would have indeed been a nice choice for Pete I agree I like his character on Tree Hill. I agree that Lana should have found out after the tornado. We could have avoided so much unnecessary drama after wards.

SMALLVILLE has drawn from various versions of the Superman story, and in the pre-Crisis comics, it was Pete, not Lana, who knew about Clark's powers.

Lana NEVER knew.

During their youth Pete saw Clark changing into Superboy one night during a camping trip, and never said a word.

Years later, when they were grown, his knowledge led to Superman being saved from some bad situation (a potentially fatal one, if I remember right).

I agree tho' that the SMALLVILLE version of Pete was mis-used for some reason, and ruined.

No wonder Sam Jones wanted to leave.

Or maybe the show was just taking him away from his drug-dealing business?

^
Lana never knowing? If i was Clark...she would be the first to know.

It would have been nice to give Pete more. The way they did the Pete finding out...was good...everything after that was just waisted.

About season 10...Other than the stuff with Oliver, Chloe really doesn't fit in with whats going on on Smallville now...I think Chloe/Clark friendship is strained enough to where a break can be made...I really don't see AM fitting in with a tenth season of the show.

She's a disaster and really the only complaint I have of the past two seasons.
You mean you liked the episodes where Lana came back, Clark dropped Lois like a sack of rotting shit, and followed Lana around with puppy eyes, Lana gets super powers and Clark is ready to devote his undying love to her? Then she absorbs some kryptonite, so Clark starts after Lois again and suddenly Lois is the love of his life?

Well, Lois actually is the love of his life. That's part of why Lana was so annoying, she just wouldn't go away.

Besides, at least Lois is fun. I can't imagine how frakking miserable Clark would be married to Lana.
I think we're pretty much on the same page, but I probably didn't flesh that out clearly...

Lois and Clark were already dancing close on the verge of kissing, after a smoking hot buildup the first part of that season. For Lana to come back then, the logical thing in the story would be for Clark to shake her hand, wish her the best, etc etc. and go back to dancing with Lois.

That would have actually been worth bringing KK back for, it would have given Clark the closure he needed, and being with Lois represents him growing up.

What we're left with is the lingering feeling that the only reason he's not with Lana right now is the kryptonite. It has nothing to do with, say, maturity, or genuine love for Lois.

Clark's feelings for Lana should have been a teenage fantasy, he's a guy with repressed emotions who was forced to keep his secret for his entire life. He's a prime candidate for living in his parent's basement and wacking off to internet porn, except he ended up with powers and a destiny.

His feelings for Lana should have been fantasy, and he should have never had a clue what kind of person she really was. He should have found out she was human, flawed, and not a perfect fairy tale princess, been disappointed and then grown up and got laid.

I thought this was the story Miller and Gough were leading up to. It made sense. Lana the kryptonite princess of power doesn't make sense, and Clark's feelings for Lois don't make a lick of sense unless he has stopped being infatuated with Lana. But we've never seen him stop.

To ditch Lois at the wedding like he did was cruel and hurtful. The writing never really gave us a point where we saw that he was falling in love with Lois after that, just Jor El tells us that Clark is in love with her. But to me, if he was in love with her, he wouldn't have ditched her at Chloe and Jimmy's wedding.

Well, I agree with you on a couple of things there. They (meaning the writers) have indeed strained the Clark/Chloe friendship to the point where they COULD make a break and make it work. By the same token, they could just as easily have them reconcile those differences in a final conflict involving the Kandorians, where C & C finally realize that they are striving for the same thing... Avoiding the future where Zod & Co. rule.

As much as I hate to admit it, I think that Chloe's fate has been clearly defined, ever since Lois' memories of the future (now altered) were shown. Yes, that version of the future has been derailed, but things are still pointing to a cataclysm of some size on the horizon. I don't want to see the character killed off, but if they feel that's the only way, then I hope her death has true meaning.

OTOH, if TPTB really want Allison back for Season 10, there are numerous ways to keep her character involved with things involving the Justice League. I mean, how difficult is it to imagine her mental/computer abilities morphing into a new level on their own, w/o Brainiac being involved?

Hopefully we will hear if AM/Chloe is back for season 10 soon. If not...

:(

Clark had actually started falling in love with Lois (and knew he was) prior to Lana's return (at Chloe's wedding).

Lana's return threw him and he didn't quite know what to do.

It IS possible to love two people at the same time. (That was a long running situation in the Superman books for years. Lois and Lana.)

Lana's becoming the lady with the healthy (but invisible) green glow simply made the one choice impossible and made the other one the way to go.

One funny thing about the situation that led to super-Lana leaving Clark's life forever, tho-

Little Kal-El's ship was shown to have the tech to nullify and "wash away" kryptonite radiation. (Remember Lana's necklace being made clear?)

Funny how Clark never asked the Jor-El A.I. if the Fortress had the same tech, which it makes sense it would.

Lana could have had a nice little Krypto-tech shower and have been as good as new, still her super-nanoed self, and still very available to Clark.

I guess for the sake of the show's continuity (due to Kreuk's leaving) either Clark was too stupid to ask, or the Fortress didn't have the same tech after all?

 What is with that on Smallville...they make Clark out to be some sort of idiot alot of times...then sometimes he is the smartest person on the show.
