Mark Waid's recent and hyped retelling of the origin a few years back entailed that the blue that was the colour of Superman's eyes was not a shade of blue found in human pigments nor even on the planet under natural circumstances, the original idea was to have an insane luminous blue dye be used for his eyes whenever he wasn't wearing his glasses, but the accounts department replied "go fuck yourself".

A blue not found on earth in normal circumstances? WTF?!
