Yeah, the cast is there...but the show is half-assed most of the time.

Nothing gets developed, because it's all time killing for the last 10 minute resolution, which used to feature music by THE SMASHING PUMPKINS and THE PLAIN WHITE T'S, no longer available at the WB.COM.

I wonder if the turn-out to this thread is a microcosm of the show. It really hasn't been doing well.

Though, it was a significantly better episode than last week's.

I think a lot of people are giving up on Smallville - I can't say that I blame them.

I thought that Zod would be more of a presense - Obviously, he's just a name in the credits now.

It may very well be. I think the crappiness and disappointment of the season finale, combined with being put on Monday might have just put this show on its last legs. I don't think the season's been that bad though.

They mishandled Lois becoming a reporter from day one. She only got the job at the Daily Planet because Grant the Clone Editor wanted to screw her. It was a complete joke how she suddenly got the job and Chloe was kicked out the door. Then all of a sudden she's this great, respected reporter at the beginning of Season 2. She talks about working her way up...something she never had to do because the clone hired her for the job and had her working big stories.

Like most things on this show, it happened completely off-camera. Clark spends years dragging his feet on the "embracing his destiny" business and then starts doing it at the beginning of season nine.

The writers did some retconning with this episode. Ollie states he was five when his parents died. As I recall, we see a much older Ollie during that Veritas flashback with his parents still alive. Smallville Wiki states that he was in the fourth grade, making him 9 0r 10.

In the opening moments of the series' pilot episode don't we see Lionel Luthor reading a newspaper with headlines talking about the death/disapperance of the Queens?

We do.

And Ollie and Lex are presumably about the same age, right?

Oh.

And why did the bomb blow out Clark's hearing and wind him?

And why did Clark give Lois the nasty donut office goon had taken a bite out of? Couldn't he just as quickly have gotten her a fresh donut from the store? I mean in the same span of time he did once run all the way to Vermont to get Lana some real maple syrup.

Yeah, they had them going to school together.

This is the second episode I missed in a row because it's on Friday and, well, I have other stuff going on. Something tells me I'm not the only one.

i missed two in a row. This one because I've been sick for the last few days. Will have to check it out online at some point.

This thread is pretty short with most of the live commentary regulars gone.

Great, when Smallville starts ripping off Mel Gibson movies we MUST be in trouble.
I thought... Payback? Ransom? Oh, the other one. The same one I was thinking of as I was watching. :o

The "being in tune/reading minds" bit was good. We also got some good Lois & Clark moments. Still, nothing earth-shattering, or maybe I was just too distracted by something else tonight, so I'm gonna go with "average".

Lois is the kind of girl who'd eat a donut someone took a bite out of.

That's either totally hot or utterly gross.

To her defense, she thought it was Clark's bite so being that they're close (and he wants him to bite at her womanly parts) she can probably ignore any "ick factor" -she also began eating the donut from the other end, for all we know she didn't eat the part of the donut around the bite.

I still wonder why Clark simply just didn't go to
Ddonutsf.JPG
and get a fresh one or, hell, a whole box of them for her.

Because Lois knew copyboy took the last maple. For Clark to zip to

and get fresh box in under a minute (he still has to wait for them to be boxed and pay for them, in theory), that would be suspicious.

He'd just put the money in the till at superspeed while the chashier is blinking even if it is technically stealing... WHOLLY CRAP! I was in this exactly same situation three days ago, the store keep was I suspect on the toilet and I just stood their looking at some doughnuts with the money in my hands wondering why i shouldn't just leave the money and bugger off, unless iit was part of a consumer affairs punk'd reality tv show.

I waited like a monkey.

Clark once super-sped to Vermont to get Lana some maple syrup and he was gone in the span of an eye-blink.

Surely going down the street to get a box of donuts would be asy for The Blur!
