Spoilers Skeleton Crew [Spoiler Discussion]

Anyone else a little confused to see people recognising 'The Goonies' influence, but then be shocked to see violence and (very) mild horror? Did anyone actually see Goonies? I mean; this part alone!

80's family movies were very dark compared to the sanitised saccharine tat that's been the standard of the genre since the mid-90's. 'The Goonies', 'Return to Oz', 'Gremlins', 'The Witches', 'Little Monsters', 'Time Bandits', 'Young Sherlock Holmes', 'The Dark Crystal', 'The Neverending Story', basically any Don Bluth animated movie ever . . .
Fair point.

I haven't watched it since college (i.e. about two decades ago).

One probably should remember that back in the 70s and 80s G was the kids movie rating. PG was the edgier rating for films that didn't work up to an R rating. PG-13 was made later because so many of those 80s films pushed as close to R as they dared at parents and other groups pushed for something more teen rated.

I've never understood the obsession with marketing hard R movies to kids in the '80s. Did they really think people were taking their little kids to these movies? Or was it meant to be a chance for the kids to get to experience it in their own way since they couldn't see the movies?

Was the song in one of the episodes somewhere? I don't remember hearing it.

Kids have been getting around grown up rules for just about forever. One could sneak into the movie or watch it on VHS or HBO when it comes to tv. Pay a adult to pretend to be your parents. Pretty much any plot point in a coming of age movie in the 80's and early 90's.

It was actually Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom that prompted the creation of the PG-13 rating.

Sure, but they're not being made for kids. I doubt very much that Paul Verhoeven had 6 year olds in mind when he was directing Robocop.
And on a side note, I am in shock that I actually spelled Paul Verhoeven's name correctly on my first try.

I don't think he made it just for kids but I think lots of those guys knew what a bunch of, lets face it , mostly young boys would think is cool back in the 80's. They for sure didn't run from it.

I'm pretty sure this series has created characters that the world will fall in love with. It will be a benefit to the franchise like Andor is except, it will sell a hell of a lot more merch. Kids are going to go crazy for this show I think.

Kids don't buy toys anymore. Only old nerds I am afraid. The big question is how many of these old nerds will ever dare to take the toys out of their original packaging. :)

Any reason why they didn't want Neel to be an Ortolan? I mean, he does look slightly different than Max Rebo, but that can be explained many ways. I know it's kind of ambiguous as to how many appendages Ortolans have.
Probably because of this.

Also Neel's eyes have whites, Max's do not. I have no idea if that even matters to them, though. **side-eyes Ridley Scott**

"And, no, Neel isn’t the same species as Max Rebo. We asked."

Hope it's not to cheat someone out of money, such the person who made the Max Rebo alien. The SW version of when Trek went with Tom Paris instead of Nick Locarno and T'Pol instead of T'Pau.

Maybe it's a Doctor Who situation where they'd have to pay someone if he were an Ortolan? Granted, the chances of that being the case are slim, but I usually find when we get something that is similar to but legally distinct from, it's usually for reasons related to money.

Based on the lyrics, "At Attin" could mean Earth.
