, would you mind if oral sex was depicted between two individuals in this show?

What can I say in a polite way?

I think this isn´t needed. We need good stories, no "good" sex.
There are plenty of oral sex all around, for free, it isn´t a taboo. They just don´t use starfleet uniforms when doing this in those movies....
Ouch... Almost forgot... there are porn starfleet movies out there!!!

That being said, I can´t see what oral sex can add in Star Trek movies, and this is a story that I don´t want to see being told in the show.

And I know the perfect person to write this oral sex episode!

I'll be serious to say this: There's very little interesting shows one can watch with their kids without those cringeworthy moments. I can accept characters have sex and have various ways they might do that. I also get they probably have some new sonic method in or transporter technology that is better than a commode and Charmin. I don't need all the details.

If they make Trek too adult they'll never get a new fan base at an early age. I was watching reruns in the 70's before 1st grade, and actually remember a few of them. Hooked for life. Don't ruin it for everyone just for realism.

DIS is already too adult for little kids. If they add sex scenes or not won't make a difference. The way to get new young fans to a franchise is making animated series specifically for kids. When they are older many of them will watch the live action series and movies.

Technically sex scenes aren't a story. They are usually the extension of the story, usually a romance or a example of how far a character has sunk or how much fun they are having or if it's something terrible like rape/incest/molesting it is a example of how bad that person is or is how bad someone's life is if they are on the worst end of that. It can be used for comedy like "Team America:World Peace." As for Trek it could also be used for world building if it involves aliens or maybe you want to establish what porn looks like in the future. The worst example is for just appealing to people's sex drives. I think the last one is what most would want them to avoid. This is Trek and not "Baywatch."

No. This is already a show I can't watch with my seven year-old daughter. Why make it something I can't watch with her several years from now too?

Somewhere, 20-something me is screaming YES. But today's me is saying if you REALLY want to have that, either watch a porn parody for the graphicness, or pre-1980s porn which tries to associate a story with all the sex. Either way, Trek for me is supposed to be family viewing. Discovery isn't, but that's okay. I'll just watch it with my wife, but not with my daughter.

No need for anything graphic, or anything puerile either. Mad Men implied this rather matter-of-factly a couple times without getting explicit, and that was TV-14.

I have nothing against sex scenes, but i don't need them in Star Trek. It would just feel weird and forced, like when the Stargate franchise made a hamfisted attempt at being edgy by having sex scenes in SG:U

One of the licenced novels had a rather unsubtle reference to oral sex. I know they're aimed at a somewhat older audience than the shows, but that still caught me by surprise.

Shouldn't we be asking why sex is seen as graphic to begin with? People get shot and killed on Trek all the time but we are okay with that. Why is sex more graphic than people who kiss? Also wouldn't sex scene really be scene as graphic in the future or will it be looked back on by future people like we look at how married couples had two beds or woman couldn't be called pregant in older tv shows.

There was sex in the last episode, I know we didn't see all the details - sigh and gasp. When it comes to realism I aim small.. for once I would like to see someone finish a meal on any show but that too is an unfulfilled dream, I guess oral sex scenes on Discovery might be left for the imagination.

How come though it always comes down to this argument ? You know the one that goes along the lines there's already violence so let's add some profanity and porn?

Well, to have a sex and to have an oral sex is two different thing in a show. A sex can be subtle. Both characters talk, then when time skip, they just wake up at the same bed, with the male character not wearing the top. The female just can use undie or shirt like the admirals, and the audience already get the message that both of them having sex. Just like in the Discovery.

But oral sex is a more specific technique of sex / fetish. How can you tell the audience that both characters in the show having oral sex if they're not showing a sex scene in more detail?

It's more about why we are more tolerate to something that is wrong in the real world such as killing and violence but then get offended at something that is good in sex. I think the question is usually more about ourselves than it is the actual acts of sex or violence in a tv show or movie. In fact I think that might be another reason why people want to put sex scenes in shows. They want the audience to look at themselves from the emotional reaction they have to seeing it.

Conflict and a war story is what Discovery is running with right now. I suspect it is to lead us to how the Prime Directive and other Federation values developed and evolved. I personally tend to think there will always be violence in life and at some point becoming desensitised is a consequence of that.

Yeah I don't know about being too graphic about sex on a show that although its more mature rating, is still something we all know kids might want to watch. There are sensitivities that are observed to protect our young and not so young, lol. Too much information probably is the best way to go. What do I know.. I'm not a prude but I can compartmentalise genres if you like. I don't watch Star Trek for the graphic naughty bits.
