2) They pull a Voyager and integrate the crews as they are stuck with each other. LA girl is the Chakotay to Young's Janeway.

But, considering who wrote this episode and part 2, I'm not holding out too much hope.

In fact, going by who wrote this eps, I can probably guess with 98% accuracy, how they will resolve a couple things.

Didn't Mallozzi/Mullie write last week's episode as well?

Yes. Also wrote 2x01, hence why these 4 episodes are playing out just like a cliched Atlantis arc.

IMy guess is that there's some kind of exotic radiation being put out by the star in the system Destiny stopped in which stopped-up the FTL, started playing hell with the computers, and dissolved an unfortunate gunman when the shield he was standing under started to slip.
They're not in a system. They're still between galaxies.

Episode 1x17 (Pain) involved the Destiny moving into a star system, so they are not still between galaxies.

Young is such an idiot. He should have disconnected the stones and cut the air the moment the any Lucian Alliance members got through the gate. In fact, he should have cut the air prior to the gate even being opened (letting Earth know that was the plan).

Hadn't thought of that one, but yeah, a good plan that Young certainly should've considered.

I'm going with the idea that Franklin's ascended and he's responsible for the LA guy getting fried.

All in all, I enjoyed the ep and even if they were only cameos, it was still nice seeing Jack and Sam again as a reminder that their careers are still going on. It's a shame we don't get to see the SGC at all, just the war-room in the Pentagon.

Gave the show 8 Chevrons.

My guess is he really didn't want to have to deal with this shit more than once. If he cut the air immediately, the first person to walk through could radio back some kind of hold signal (either a few clicks, or something less planned, like "gasp, ack!"), then the LA would know something was up. They'd either roll through some explosives to try and breach the room or grab some disused goa'uld spacesuits. If he waits until the connection is cut, then the boarding party has no way to report what happened. In fact, their silence would be expected, since they had no stones and no way to dial back immediately. And if the Lucian Alliance planned to dial in from their base to get reports from their expedition in the future, Col. Carter and the Hammond are going to make sure that doesn't happen.

Average.
While the plot wasn't dull, it seems like I've seen this play out on Atlantis several times already.
I have to wonder why, instead of completely venting the room into space, they didn't just cut off the oxygen. The invading soldiers and Rush\Talford would simply lose consciousness and then Young and his man could go in and disarm them at ease.
I have to vote No on the LA joins the ship's crew option. After a full season of military vs. civilian bickering, I don't want to see a rehash with LA vs. humans (unless there are so few LA left, that they are not in a position to ever take control).

Seriously, is this how the writer's room works for this show?

"Hey look, we've got a brand new show here, changing the way we do stargate. We've got an super awesome advanced ship really far out in the universe, they're stuck far from home, haven't even scraped the surface of what's on the ship itself, what's out there in that part of the universe, we've got new advanced aliens actively hunting them, but, for the season finale, let's rehash an Atlantis story, and, let's rehash some B-story villian, I know, the Lucian Alliance! Somehow, a dumbass group of thieves and smugglers find a way to gate to the Destiny when not even Earth can. And then, to top it all off, we'll make it boring."

I liked this episode. I wouldn't go with "best ever", but I still gave it a 9. I thought it was fast-paced and far from boring. The O'Neill/Carter cameos weren't wasted either. I thought they were appropriately well done. Their cameos are supposed to be nice little touches, not front and center features. Rhona Mitra continues to be good in the role. As I said last week, she's exceded my expectations and this is probably the best she's ever looked in a part. When I heard she was cast, I was expecting Vanessa Angel all over again. Not that there's anything wrong with that, but what they're doing with Mitra is better.

How did the Lucian Alliance plan to get off Destiny? They're trapped now. And what will become of Telford? Last week I said that they're not going to kill him off and lose Lou Diamond Phillips, but right now, I'm having second thoughts. They could go that route, but I suppose they could also leave him and the Alliance stranded on a planet somewhere where they'll be off the show but able to return as recurring characters, maybe even with their own ship at some point. Kiva won't be a regular. Rhona Mitra has her own show coming out and oddly enough, it's called The Gates.

One other little point... Telford and Rush must have switched temporarily when Destiny dropped out of FTL, but they didn't show it.

LOL!

I actually enjoyed this episode. I hate the Lucian Alliance though, they really could have found someone better to pit them against. The evil Asgard from Atlantis would have been better, those guys were serious dicks.

I'm not sure why Young didn't have them cut the Rush/Telford connection when he saw Rush/Telford come through the gate and then ordered them to space the bad guys. He put his own people at risk to save the guy that was possibly nailing his wife.

Look, if you've created a brand new show based on a mysterious alien spaceship, millions upon millions of lightyears away from the known Stargate saga, you've established that the ship has a mind of it's own and to top all that, you've got brand new mysterious aliens hunting you down and you need to go back to the well and rehash old villains and old plot points within the first fucking season you deserve to lose your job.

I only gave this a 7 out of 10 because of the plot holes.
Young should have got Rush out while he was still on the planet and then if they still had managed to gate in he should removed all the oxygen out of the gateroom.
Once the LA gate in and lose consciousness they could have rescued Rush\Talford and dumped everyone else out of a airlock.
And was I the only one to guess that useless Chloe was going to get shoot.
I also take it that Talford days are numbered. I just hope the new writers breath new life into the show next series.

Like I said it's now definitely a *Stargate* show now. I think that's what a lot of the longtime fans actually want. I can see that, that's what the franchise has been, but I liked that other aspect even if I've always known it'd probably be short-lived.

Finally. . . a watchable SGU episode. There have been--at my count--three good episodes since the show started. This one actually ranks as darned good by general scifi standards (which makes it frakking outstanding by SGU standards).

Interesting that they found a way to get L.D Philips onboard. Is he a permanent cast member now? Hope so.

Question, are they going to--ANNOYINGLY--integrate bad guys within the crew, a la Voyager? While it would be interesting, it would also be cheap.

I liked it. However, the Lucian Alliance really are a bunch of morons, at least this particular bunch and especially Kiva. Killing your own troops because they're 'incompetent' is stupid enough, but she was going to lose all the leverage she had if she killed any hostages.
I'm actually starting to like Young...well, maybe 'like' isn't quit accurate. I admire his ridiculous amount of stubborn, audacious willpower is more like it. I liked it when he told Rush he was going to save everyone.
Finally, Wray seems to be just a little bit useful. Young even thought so. I also enjoyed the biting sarcasm in her voice when she told Kiva the military listened to the civilians.
Gee, I wonder if Chloe's gonna die...
What in the name of Daniel Jackson was that? Hmm, melting soldiers...have I seen that before? I'm not sure. Maybe it is an ascended Franklin, that would be cool. But I doubt it, probably some stellar radiation cloud thingy Destiny is passing through.
Guy Gardener mentioned gating to other Destiny-class ships...that would be awesome!

All things considered, a good episode. 8/10

Yeah, but they're super edgy and different now!

Or they kill him off next episode... I don't know any spoilers in that regard, it just seems so logical.

Of course, it would be a great actor to keep around. But wouldn't it add even more annoying conflict to the show? At least Telford seems to be all buddy-buddy now with Young after the brainwashing has been broken. But how is this supposed to work with two colonels on board? Young is the commanding officer, and Telford his new second-in-command? Well, since O'Neill seemed to be unhappy with Young's performance in this episode, he could relieve him command and put Telford in charge.

My guess: One of the two colonels is gonna die defending the ship against the Alliance. And whoever survives remains/becomes CO (and my money is on Young being the survivor... probably the cheaper actor).

Am I the only one who realized what those Lucian Alliance door opening devices were?

I thought, "Oh crap, they brought doorknobs!"
