Series 5 trailer

TBH its daft how the Doctor can save The Universe but can't clean his police box now and again ;)

"I thought i'd be cleaner"

I guess people want this

Maaan, that picture looks soooo familiar. But I JUST can't put my finger on where I've seen it before. :shifty:

Well, I for one am very excited for Series 5 and for the Eleventh Doctor. As a relatively new Who fan it's still taking some getting used to the idea of everything changing every few years, but I'm looking forward to what Smith and Moffat (especially Moffat) can do with the show.

Now that Doctor Who is with BBC America, do you think we might get to see new episodes here in the US the day after they air in the UK, like with TEOT? That would be fantastic (no pun intended :p).

That was the smartest thing BBC America did and could do. Having it air so quickly after absolutely discouraged me from procuring it in other ways....:shifty:

I hope they keep it up.

But it's a regenerated and repaired Tardis, looking like a pristine Police Box.

Can someone refresh my memory as to why the Tardis looks like a police box? I think it had to do with the chameleon circuit being able to choose an image fitting into its present surroundings so it would not be noticed. But the circuit is somehow jammed and therefore locked onto the image of a police box?

That's exactly right. The Police Box was a common sight, and it just worked as a disguise when they were in 1963. When they left that time, it hadn't changed, and the Doctor was never able to fix it properly. He probably could, but he seems to like it now.

Given the perception filter, one has to wonder why the TARDIS has a chameleon circuit in the first place...

Yes and it must've broken in the first ep. since in the second Susan noted that the ship hadn't changed it's shape.

All that about the police box image origina makes me wonder which would be less conspicuous - a freshly scrubbed, repainted and repaired image or the dingier one showing more wear and tear?

DoctorDonna talks about knowing how to fix the circuit right before her brain starts to fry in Journey's End...so I would imagine that you are right. The Doctor could fix it, but he doesn't want to fix it...and didn't the 4th Doctor temporarily fix it at some point?

The fourth was working on fixing it in Logopolis, he even went to Logopolis to have the Logopolitians figure out the proper codeing to get it to work. The Master tampered with the coding process and when the Doctor tryed it, it made the Tardis shrink. The 6th Doctor fixed the circuit in 'Attack of the Cybermen' and the Tardis changed into different forms, not always fitting in to it's surrounding before being stuck again in its police box form.

Belt and suspenders. The chameleon circuit can discourage people from giving a TARDIS a second look, but it can't guarantee it. Having a chameleon circuit makes sure that even if someone notices it, they won't realize it doesn't belong there.

^well, it has to look like something.

If Doctor Who started today, it's probably be a coke machine or something like that.

Frankly it's kind of amazing to me that the BBC has kept the Tardis as a 1960's police box all this time. Obviously by now it's too iconic to change, but back in the 70s it probably would have been fairly easy.

Certainly if the show was produced here by one of OUR networks, they would have changed the design a few times by now. lol

The reason they went with a police box in the first place was because it was a cheap design. They probably never bothered for financial reasons.

But you're right about our networks changing the design multiple times.

Fantastic! Just don't let the nitpicking purists see that link. Their heads will explode! ;)
