Yep, sounds like a Bad Robot, Kurtzman style script. Just add some explosions, make it flashy and have some corridor heart to hearts, and bickering between the crew.. Then the proper modern trek formula is good to go! No real depth or explanation to a story-line. Who cares. This is about fun, and 25% licensing differences anyways.
I despise anything Kurtzman touches. He is the worst producer and writer I have ever seen. Even worse then JJ (Plagiarizer and repackage) Abrams.
I know we are just getting started with this era of Trek, and I'm already wishing it was over.
Sorry, just how I feel. I mean, the majority of the characters in STD are unlikeable to me anyhow.
I could get behind, and maybe support a Pike Enterprise series, if someone else took the helm and made it more like that traditional formula, but I can't say I like this new Bad Robot Carnival "Prime" universe.. I still prefer the Alpha Timeline.
I cannot stand the Kelvin universe.
Modern trek.. Pffffffftttt!! yep, follows the downfall of a lot of modern shows. halved in their communities, and each side at each others throats over stupid things, and mostly SUPERFICIAL reasons.
Picard has the potential to be good.. But STD. I left midway into Season 2, and litterally FORCED myself to watch Season 1. 2 was indeed better, but the whole sorry excuse of a storyline, the red angels, and the whole mess with S31 was just annoying. I would have preferred getting to see stories where the Federation or Discovery meet super powerful beings, like in classic Trek, or something more of a discover type plot.. like it's name sake. A less annoying know it all beside Burnham, who always, always contradicts orders because she is supposedly smarter then anyone else.
smug and pretentious characters wear on the audience overtime. she does not become more likeable at all.
There's just so much I can't like about Discovery, that what I do like is just an after thought, and not the real substance or meat of the series that draws me back.
When I think of ST, I am not thinking about the explosions, or the ships as much as the characters, and STD characters are just like that crew of people you work with. you have to be there, but gosh if you were off, none of them would ever hear from you.. until you HAD to come back... dreading the next visit the whole time.
As somebody who has outgrown several franchises/fandoms: then stop watching it.
If all it does is turn you bitter or angry, don't "force yourself" to sit through 2 seasons of a tv show you don't like. If you know from experience you don't like the direction/creators behind it, avoid it. If you have hopes for Picard check it out, or wait until the reviews come in to see if it might be something you actually enjoy.
I recently weeded out a ton of books which I had bought back at a time when I "had" to complete a series, even if I had stopped enjoying it a couple of volumes back. But somewhere along the way I figured out that I don't have to read things I'm not enjoying anymore, and man, was that a cathartic revelation. You do that with Kurtzman-flavor Star Trek, as I did with DC Comics when they basically eradicated the entire tire of legacy heroes that got me interested and reading in the first place, or the last two of Stephen Hunt's Jackelian Series.
Fill your life with stuff you do enjoy, instead of wasting time with stuff you hate.
