yeah, that scene in particular was super early. By the time they shot the cage fight that is his into in the movie he already looks buffer.
Not just susceptible, he's undergone several procedures to address carcinomas in the last several years.

To be fair, it helps that he can afford personal trainers, nutritionists and chefs. And he frequently gets paid to get into shape.
I need to change trainers, but I have one. And I just started working with a nutritionist. Sadly, no chef. I just need someone to pay me to get into shape.

There were stories now and then at Marvel but it wasn't anywhere near the level of silver/bronze age DC. In fact, the whole impetus for "Crisis on Infinite Earths" was a perception that DC had too many versions of the same characters and needed to streamline their continuity to be more like Marvel. That perception stemmed, in part, from comments made by Marvel's EIC and some of the former Marvel guys who went over to DC.
In any event, I just find it ironic that Marvel is now, sixty years in, basically where DC was at a more or less parallel point in their publishing history.
Shawn Levy says you don't need to watch any other movies to understand DP3. (I assume other than the first 2 DP moves)

Also what you see on screen isn't what the actors actually look like e.g. Tom Cruise and his puffy face and Turkey neck.
