That's an amazing, bonkers idea that could never be pulled off in this day and age. Maybe 20 years ago. But definitely not now. Alas.Ryan Reynolds have revealed one of their original plans for Deadpool & Wolverine was to hide it behind a fake movie called Alpha Cop.
The idea was that they would shoot the fake movie, which would have been about two cops who share one brain, and then when people went to see it, 5 minutes in the Marvel Studios logo would have popped up onscreen and Deadpool & Wolverine would have started.
I don't know if they would have ever actually been able to pull that off without word getting out what was really going on, but it would have been awesome if they did.
That would have been amazing. But a logistical nightmare. How to do PR? Or merchandise? A small movie that nobody wants to see is suddenly Deadpool 3 and masses of people start scrambling outside small theaters trying to see it with larger chains having a meltdown for not picking up the film. You'd need to M Night Shyamalan proof that. Have an extremely tight network secretly work on merchandise and enforce embargoes on any per-promotional interviews done.Ryan Reynolds have revealed one of their original plans for Deadpool & Wolverine was to hide it behind a fake movie called Alpha Cop.

And hell, Shyamalan only pulled it off with Split because it was a single scene. Far easier to get away with than the majority of a film with two huge stars. That would have been amazing. You would think, if nothing else, that Marvel would want those cameos to remain unspoiled beyond the first weekend, in case there are people who will only go to see who’s in it. Maybe they think knowing who is in it will make some fence sitters go, but I would’ve thought at least as many people will think “okay, I know who’s in it now, I don’t need to see it.”There's tons of spoilers floating around for this.
Apparently Marvel themselves put every actor who had a cameo in this on stage during a panel yesterday and news sites are just posting that picture all over the place.
Damn, that's crazy. Like Captaindemotion said, you'd think they would wait a week but I guess it was bad (?) timing with Comic Con and all.^ Yep comic-con reveals the surprise cameos
