RIP Sir Patrick Stewart

"West End theatres to dim their lights in memory of Sir Patrick Stewart"

I wonder if anyone will gather outside any theatre... I may go along if there's a logical point.

Incredibly sad. I spent some time this morning going over some favourite Picard moments. A very talented man, but more than that a very moral one. In the UK he was frequently on the airwaves attacking the injustices of the administration of the day. He will be greatly missed.

I don't get broken up by actor deaths anymore. But this one is absolutely gutting.
I'm wired differently than a lot of people, I guess. Celebrity deaths have never broken me up unless I've actually met them, and not just in a passing hello way. Grace Lee Whitney and Walter Koenig hit a bit because I corresponded with both. I even took Grace to lunch once.

I can empathize with Stewart's family and friends, though, and what they're going through. I've dealt with a lot of people close to me dying over the past five years, and I just saw a dying friend for the last time on Sunday before he went into hospice. Grief is something I've become much too well acquainted with.

Pro gay rights, pro animal rights, anti Brexit a lover of the arts and a humanist.

We grew up in very different times but in very similar parts of the world and I know from personal experience that sadly people from our working class backgrounds who hold these values are few and far between. Way too many of my peers laugh at "representation" but he represented me in so many ways.

I'm still not okay right now. :(

The pain from losing Patrick Stewart is still very much within me. I can't scroll through any social media platform without seeing tribute posts about Patrick Stewart. I mean, don't get me wrong. He deserves beyond ALL the recognition he gets but to keep being reminded he's not here anymore just makes the pain all the more heavy and raw.

I resent not having the honor of having met him in person. I'd loved to have met him to tell him how much I looked up to him when I watched TNG before I was even old enough to start going to school. The entire TNG crew were like role models to me, actually.

Marina Sirtis posted a video on her Instagram crying her eyes out that Patrick had died, just two short days after Walter died, no less. The irony is, on the show Troi was the empath but in that moment I actually felt her pain.

My heart feels heavy. I can't imagine a world without him in it but it's nature. Everyone has their expiration date. I just hate that his had to be October 28, 2026.

RIP.

My favorite role of Patrick Stewart remains Leondegrance in Excalibur. Always thought there should have been a holodeck scene with that.

Excalibur was the very first thing I ever saw Patrick in, and in that brief role I thought he was great. I never suspected that a decade later, I would get to meet the man at a convention here in Cleveland - a highlight of my personal, Star Trek memories. I remember that Patrick was flying in from London and the flight got delayed, but no one left. Though he was over an hour late, he spent an equal amount of time on that stage thanking people for their patience and regaling them with tales of Trek and his other experiences. And then he stayed until everyone who wanted an autograph got one.

What a wonderful and engaging human being. I really do feel priviledged that I had the chance to meet him all those years ago (this was between Seasons 3 and 4 of TNG). I will continue to remember that day for a long time to come.

Funny the things he showed up in before Trek. Dune, Excalibur and Lifeforce. All very different parts. Not even sure I sussed they were played by the same guy or that guy was playing Picard in that new Trek show I was watching. I saw him in I, Claudius as well.

I just found out he appeared on Coronation Street (the world’s longest-running TV soap opera) as a fireman in a 1967 episode. Wow! Talk about versatility. The guy was a legend.
He also played Sejanus in the 1976 BBC series I, Claudius, alongside another legend - Derek Jacobi as Claudius.
