RIP Sir Patrick Stewart

He had posted one last time in April performing one of Shakespeare's sonnets on X. I could not help but think at the time that he was in good form and looked healthy. 7 months later gone. Gut wrenching week my fellow Trek Fans. Absolutely gut wrenching... 😢

Wondered why he had not appeared on Brent and Jonathan’s Podcast yet. As close as the cast is, probably knew some of his health condition for awhile.
I am in shock. As a teen in the 90s he was Star Trek to me. In many ways always will be.

I know it won't happen right away, but I would really like to see a roundtable discussion with the cast on Brent and Jonathan's podcast about their time with Patrick.

I've been kind of sad at losing some celebrities from afar... knowing I'll never get to see Jessica Walter or Joan Rivers again for example. But this has hurt very differently I am almost in teras. It's like losing someone I know so well. It would have been mad dad's birthday yesterday so I think I'm already feeling a bit sore.

I grew up with Picard. Forty years ago next year.

I am devastated. I think at the loss of Patrick, but also for the loss of my childhood in a way. Even rewatching TNG this year, it's been my little bubble of escapism and happiness. Knowing that 100% finitely there will never be a TNG outing is hard. Because even when it's highly unlikely, it can live in a sort of limbo in a Schrodinger's cat sort of state in your head. Sadly today opens the box.

I am glad I reconciled with Picard somewhat this year. It has many issues, but I'm pleased I found some good in it with it being his last work for Trek.

I'm also so pleased I got to see Patrick on stage twice. Once with Ian McKellen a few years back. But the one that really stick with me was at Christmas Carol. I go to to the theatre weekly now, but that was one of my first ever theatre outings. And I remember being utterly SPELLBOUND. To the point where I thought I could hear things he was talking about, he got me into such a state of involvement.

I am heartbroken.

I just heard. Im totally shocked right now. TNG and his character was such a comfort when I was younger. He really brought his A game to the role and inspired a lot of us young people of the period. I hear he passed from Alzheimers/Lews Body Dementia. He had really been looking frail the last few years. Im glad he was able to shoot his scenes for the next Avengers. Will be a nice cap to his screen career. R.I.P. Sir Patrick Stewart. 😢

As someone who has had a friend and family member with Alzheimer's, it's saddening to see how quickly the disease can progress.

My brother just gave me the news. And I am still shocked and in disbelief.

I...I don't know what to say. But I will miss him and I will remember him for his roles of Jean Luc Picard and Charles Xavier and every other role he has given over the years.
His final Shakespearean quote in the last episode of Picard, which I'm now eternally grateful to have seen on the episodes release back in April of 2023: "There is a tide in the affairs of men, which, taken at the flood, leads on to fortune. Omitted, all the voyage of their life is bound in shallows and in miseries. On such a full sea are we now afloat. And we must take the current when it serves or lose our ventures."

On behalf of all fans and Trekkies, I will belief all will agree to have been grateful to have ridden the tide with him.

PATRICK STEWART, YOU ROCKED MY WORLD!!

This doesn't even feel real right now. This is a really painful week for the Star Trek fanbase.

Walter Koenig dying just a few days ago was painful enough but TNG was the show that introduced me to the Star Trek franchise! I was born right in the middle of TNG's television run!

You know, especially after Koenig died, I kept thinking to myself how much an amazing blessing it was the entirety of the whole TNG cast is still with us! We even lost a couple of DS9ers. But TNG felt immortal. Now sadly he is gone...

I wish I could've met him.

But I'm grateful that he was able to revisit Picard's shoes one final time for three years and welcome back the whole TNG cast on the Enterprise-D one last time. 😭

RIP.

Patrick Stewart brought a lot to TNG as Captain Picard, including some very great performances. I liked all three seasons of PIC, even S2. I also thought he made a great Professor Xavier. Seeing him in the 1984 Dune was a real treat.

He has a good long life and a brilliant career. L'Chaim!

I was lucky enough to see him live on stage in a Folger Shakespeare Theater production of Othello. Reverse cast. He played Othello, usually reserved for a "Moor," a black man. The rest of the cast was black, instead. Brilliant.
