Rey in The Force Awakens (Possible Spoilers)

And if he'd flown her more, people would've complained about the movie being too derivative and just giving us "more of the same"? :p

Actually he didn't fly it at all in ROTJ so actually flying it more in this movie would have been fine. Old Han Solo going into battle with the Falcon one last time would have been sweet.

Meh, old man, slow reflexes, and all that. He'd be a terrible football goalkeeper, too.
Better let Rey do it. ;)

If then....

How would people describe the lightsaber styles of Rey, Finn, and Kylo Ren?

Kylo had a bit more flare, twirling rhe saber around and also swiveling 360 degrees (like Obi-Wan in ANH). He seemed to treat the saber like a broadsword.

Others have pointed out that Rey was using the saber like it was a staff. She did tend to thrust a lot.

I think there was nothing noteworthy about how Finn handled the lightsaber. He was probably just using basic melee weapons training that he received as a stormtrooper. And TR-8R had an edge over him with that crowd-control energy weapon, or whatever it was.

Rey and Finn held the lightsaber in the same, at least at first once Rey tapped into the Force she adopted a different stand and some new moves. But there was alot of stabbing instead of the slashing movements we've seen from the Jedi in the previous movies.

So, totally changing gears.... does anyone else find Rey appealing in a romantic way? :adore:

Not in the same way as Leia in A New Hope or Padme in Attack of the Clones, but there is a certain something about Rey.

Snoke could mean 'smoke and mirrors' as in trying to look intimidating through a giant hologram.
I could be wrong, but I figured they took the word "snake" and changed a letter, villain names in Star Wars being what they are.

After all, the name Lucas had picked for the emperor initially was Dashit.

^ So... was that supposed to mean "dash it," or "Da" for a slangy "the," and ...? :vulcan:

I have no idea, but regardless of how it is pronounced, reading it is awkward. Lucas must have figured out the name was awful, because according to Wookipedia he was renamed "Son Hhat" in the next draft before settling on Palpatine. Which didn't matter much in the end, as his name was never revealed in the movies.

I found Leia more enchanting. Rey is ok but she just doesn't have what Leia had in the OT. Leia had some sex appeal and at the same time was tough. Also Rey is just to perfect in her skills for my taste. A little fault adds to attractiveness for me.

Leia was appealing, until Jedi. I can't quite put my finger on what changed, but even as a young child I noticed that she felt different.

Actually I rather thought Finn's fighting style was very rooted in kendo, which makes sense since that's always been the basis for lightsaber fights, going all the way back to ANH. I think at one point he even goes into what looked like a traditional kendo attack pose.

As for Rey, yeah, I don't think we've ever seen anyone use a lightsaber as a thrusting, stabbing weapon. I like how it sort of caught Kylo of guard a few times, which makes sense since he'd have been trained to deflect and block more direct slashing blows.
Reminds me of a saying about how an amateur with a sword can be a potentially more dangerous opponent than a seasoned veteran. Mostly because an expert knows what they're doing and follows more predictable forms and strategy, at which point it's a contest of skill and speed. While on the other hand some random nutter that don't know any better might do *anything* and so is more difficult to guard against. Of course that "anything" includes accidentally cutting their own face off, so it's far from a recipe for victory.

I like her scene in Jabbas domicile acting as a bounty hunter that had captured Chewie and her scenes in the barge with that bikini were great. She also took out Jabba. I think once they got to the forest moon of Endor and she met the Ewoks she really changed. Her hair looked horrible.

For me:
I recall having a crush on Leia from ANH and ESB. (As many boys did at the time). Yes, she did seem different in ROTJ...although, she did look good in the Endor Rebel outfit and the Jabba Palace outfit....*sigh*

Leia was cool but since she was the only lead woman at the time, the character had to be many things: damsel in distress, leader, voice of reason (which kind of ties into voice of reason).

Padme was just good-looking. She wasn't a badass. She actually becomes a more weakened character in the final prequel film (e.g. "You're breaking me apart, Anakin!" Yes, I'm paraphrasing The Room, but you get the idea). It's interesting that Lucas didn't want bouncing bosoms in space, yet he has Portman in sexy dresses that either show off her bare back, or her figure (courtesy of a special leather dress, which only needed a whip to complete the outfit - it's interesting now the comic Tag and Dink actually do this on the cover of a comic collection).

Oh, yeah....it's interesting how a large monster conveniently slashes at Padme during a certain scene in Episode II to expose a nice (and toned) midriff....lol...and make her battle outfit a bit more sexier, as if it already wasn't.

Yeah, Padme is very pretty....but that's about it.

Rey is cute and she has some cute moments (e.g. trying on the fighter pilot helmet while she's having a lonely dinner) and she's very resourceful (e.g. she can fly, she is good at hand-to-hand combat, or at least melee weapons - particularly a staff). When Finn wants to be protective, she goes out of her way to tell him she can take care of herself....and she can! However, she doesn't shy away from being protective of Finn or noticing his chivalry.

I'm not saying she didn't have good scenes, but she still felt off. Might be due to drug use. I dunno.
