Rey in The Force Awakens (Possible Spoilers)

Kylo Ren cuts off Rey's hand.

Kylo: Luke never told you what happened to your father...

Rey: He told me enough. He told me you killed him!

Kylo: No, IIIIIII am... oh wait, I mean Luuuuuke is your father.

"Let's see we already have father issues out the wazoo, an even bigger ball we named killer star HAHA GET IT LIKE THE DEATH STAR AND WE BLOW IT UP.. and uhh.. another hand chop might be too much."

My thought is that if Rey is Luke's daughter, she was hidden away when Luke's academy was destroyed by Kylo...but this time Luke had the sense to NOT put his offspring onto his homeworld using her own real last name...

Right now I'm a little more convinced that she's Luke's daughter as well.

Prequel Trilogy - Anakin Skywalker
Original Trilogy - Luke Skywalker
Sequel Trilogy - "Rey" Skywalker

I look forward to her evolution as a character. If past trends are anything to go by, she'll move away from the sweet innocent-looking girl we saw and become something fiercer, complete with darker clothing.

They might even give her a new kind of lightsaber. Will it be a take on the staff she already has? Will it be a flaming saber like Kylo Ren's? Will it be a new color like white or yellow? Can't wait to see. Whatever happens, I don't imagine more of the same old.

The other day I was watching a clip of an old Shaw Brothers kung fu movie that had a nunchuck-lightsaber thing in a Star Wars ripoff scene. Rey needs something like that.

Edit: Here you go... the scene in question starts at 0:30:

You're welcome. :p

^ I imagine something like that being hard to handle.

This guy cheats a bit by grabbing the actual blades and putting them in contact with his clothes...

They really made a point when she found that lightsaber that it belonged to Luke and his father before him, now it was calling to her. It at least implied that she was part of that heritage. I really don't think it would call to her if it were some random Jedi's lightsaber instead of one with a family connection.

It just occurred to me... that lightsaber was lost down the shaft when Luke's hand was cut off in ESB, and he constructed the green-bladed saber that he then carried in ROTJ. So how did the blue one come back?

There is also the little fact that she has had recurrent dreams of a group of islands in the middle of an ocean, and where was Skywalker in the end? A group of islands (just off the Irish coast) in an ocean.

Kor

It was found somehow?

I was thinking the same thing. If the Empire found it, the hand would presumably have been found with it. And so the Emperor could simply clone Luke and forget trying to convert him in Jedi. The Emperor could then kill Luke and Vader replace them with a Luke's clone. But then if that were the case he could have done that with Vader after ROTS. Unless of course if it turns out the force is not always hereditary. Which would also kill the PT Midichlorians. Unless the force directs them to when they would multiply more in a specific host. My head is spinning now. They should have left the why certain people have it a mystery.

I haven't heard anything about if Leia ever learned to use it.

Yeah, I bought that point up months ago in The Nerd Rage Awakens thread and the movie doesn't answer the question. But Rey's vision upon touching the lightsaber took her briefly to the cloud city before showing her the future. So I do think it's the same lightsaber.

Sorry that I don't know where but it is apparently covered in one of the many books leading up to TFA.

Someone dug it out of the garbage of Cloud City. It got sold around and ended up with Maz. She keeps a huge collection of this stuff (and leaves everything unlocked!) Relics from the OT appear to be in high demand during the ST. But it is the connection to Luke - that's why it is so valuable to Kylo Ren.

Having seen the film, I'd say that Rey is likely the daughter of
Luke Skywalker. But I would also accept Ben Kenobi, every though we know that's 'impossible'.

I also believe Santa The Hutt's reasoning is valid.
It's all about dem Skywalkers.

I was expecting some dialog between Luke and Rey at the end explaining where she came from, based on the "you have that power too" voice-over from the trailers. But that conversation never happened.

The "hope is not lost today" line wasn't spoken in the movie, either.

I have to say that Kylo Ren is one of the worst names for a villain ever.

Worse than Darth Sidious? Darth Tyranus? General Grievous?

Actually, I remember when Lucasfilm released the opening crawl to ROTS in the winter 2005. Even though it was posted on the official Star Wars website, everyone assumed it was fake because "there's no way the movie actually has a character named General Grievous." I was the one who actually revealed Grievous was legit by posting a link to a website showing the action figure of him.

Well I think Kylo Ren is worse than all of those. I mean with some of the Sith names we at least get a meaning, a way that it reveals their character or nature. I'm not saying all the Lucas-era names were great, but I like Lucas-named characters more than what I've seen from TFA so far. Snoke? Seriously? And he's the main bad guy running the show-or so we think at least? Give me a Grevious (the name, not the character) any day over that.
